Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7547 — Prayer

Volume 20 · Letter 102

By the grace of Hashem,

18 Teves* 5721,

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter (note 1: The same letter was addressed to several people). The Parshah* of this week, according to the explanation given by the Alter Rebbe* (note 2: The Rebbe notes at the bottom of the page: "Kuntres Bikur Chicago, third talk, which should be consulted"), who himself received it from our master, the Baal Shem Tov*, states:

A) An angel of Hashem revealed himself,

B) in a flame,

C) within the bush.

Consequently, may it be the Will of Hashem that you give me good tidings of the actions to which you allude. Their profound content is, indeed, the unification of two points: on one hand, the flame, as it is stated: "Its flame is a flame of fire, the flame of Hashem" (note 3: The Rebbe notes at the bottom of the page: "See the series of Chassidic* discourses entitled: 'The many waters,' of 5636, from chapter 62"), corresponding, for example, to prayer, which enables the elevation from below to above, following the same movement as fire; on the other hand, the revelation here below, as it is stated: "he revealed himself" — that is, the Torah* and the Mitzvos* which are, generally, a heavenly revelation. All of this will be accomplished "within the bush," that is, in this world (note 4: The Rebbe notes at the bottom of the page: "Consult the Mechilta*, at this reference, which states: 'The bush is lower than all the trees of the world.' And the Tanya*, at the beginning of chapter 36, specifies: 'This world is the lowest that exists'"), in a narrow place, that of constriction, Tzarah*, from which one will make a window, Tzohar* (note 5: The Rebbe notes that Tzarah (constriction) and Tzohar (window/light) share the same letters), through the light of the Torah* and the Mitzvos*. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

וע"פ פרשת שבוע זה, כתורת רבנו הזקן (תורת מורנו הבעש"ט) בהענין של: א) וירא (ואתגלי) מלאך ה'. ב) בלבת אש ג) מתוך הסנה-

יהי רצון שיבשר טוב בהפעולות אודותם כותב, אשר נקודתם הפנימית היא, התאחדות שני הענינים, לבת אש, רשפי' רשפי אש שלהבת י"ה (תפלה וכיו"ב - שתוכנה עלי' מלמטה למעלה, כענין האש וירא התגלות למטה (תורה ומצותי'- שתוכנה, בכללות מלמעלה למטה).

ויהי' זה מתוך הסנה, עולם הזה, מקום צר, צרה - לעושת מצרה צהר ע"י אור התורה והמצות.
