By the grace of Hashem,

At the conclusion of the holy Shabbos* Parshas* Beshalach* 5721,

To the annual banquet of the Women's Auxiliary of Brownsville and East New York of the Yeshivos* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch*,

I bless you and greet you,

I was satisfied to learn that your annual celebration will take place on Tuesday, the 14th of Shevat*, a date approaching for good. I hope that the leaders, the members, and all the participants will do everything in their power to ensure its financial and moral success. Without doubt, we all still find ourselves under the influence of the Hilula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe* (note 1: On the 10th of Shevat*, the Friday, eve of the writing of this letter), whose merit protects us. He is the founder and director of the Yeshivos* Lubavitch*, for which he gave of himself in a concrete manner. In fact, it is precisely for this reason that one celebrates a Hilula* and commemorates it. Each man and woman who has the immense merit of being attached to the Rebbe* and to his sacred work must strive to strengthen and develop all the domains of action of the one whose Hilula* we celebrate, with renewed forces, with determination and self-sacrifice.

The Sidra* that we read this Shabbos*, Shabbos Shirah* (note 2: That of the Song at the crossing of the Sea of Reeds), underscores in particular the importance of Jewish women, as it was expressed during the crossing of the Sea of Reeds, through the intermediary of Miriam the prophetess and all the other women, who continued, with immense joy and great enthusiasm, what Moshe* our master had begun. For this reason, the Haftarah* of this Shabbos* presents the Song of Miriam the prophetess rather than that of King David, which is read on the seventh day of Pesach* when the same Parshah* returns, as is explained at length in a talk of the one whose Hilula* we celebrate (note 3: That of Acharon Shel Pesach* 5698 (1938), in the Sefer HaSichos* 5698, page 277). The Song of Miriam the prophetess and that of Devorah the prophetess are not only songs of praise to Hashem emanating from Jewish women, but also songs of praise of Jewish women emanating from Hashem.

The words and blessings of the righteous are immutable and their effect endures forever. May these blessings of the one whose Hilula* we celebrate therefore protect each of you, with the members of your families, so that you experience success in all your accomplishments, material and spiritual alike. ליובאוויטש עבורן מסר נפשי בפועל ממש .והרי זהו תוכן זיכרון ושמירת

יום השנה ,שכל אחד ואחת מאלו שיש להם הזכות הגדולה להיות קשור

עם הרבי ועבודתו הקדושה ,יתחזק להמשיך ולהרחיב את כל תחומי

עבודת בעל־ההילולא ,בכוחות מחודשים ,החלטיות ומסירות נפש.

הפרשה שקראנו בשבת זו ,שבת שירה ,מדגישה במיוחד את חשיבות

נשי ישראל ,כפי שזה התבטא בקריעת ים־סוף ע״י מרים הנביאה וכל

הנשים ,שהמשיכו ,בשמחה מיוחדת ובהתלהבות ,את מה שמשה רבינו

התחיל .לכן גם הפטרת השבת היא שירת דבורה ־הנביאה)ולא שירת דוד

המלך ,הנקראת בשביעי של פסח ,כאשר פרשה זו בתורה נקראת,

כמבואר באריכות בשיחה של בעל ההילולא( .שירת מרים הנביאה

בעל ההילולא לכל אחד ואחת מכם עם בני ביתכם שיחיו -להצלחה בכל

עניניהם בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
