By the grace of Hashem,

12 Shevat* 5721,

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of the eve of the Hilula* (note 1: Of the previous Rebbe*, the 10th of Shevat*), with the request for a blessing that was enclosed. It was read, at a propitious moment, on the very day of the Hilula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, near his holy resting place. I thank you for the good news you announce — the success of the celebration that took place on 24 Teves*, the date of the Hilula* of the Alter Rebbe*. As you yourself write, may Hashem grant that this motivate each of the Chassidim* of your city, lead him to multiply the actions destined to strengthen this holy institution and to develop it. For nothing withstands the will, especially in light of what my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, explains in the series of Chassidic* discourses of the day of his Hilula*. Chapter 11 (note 2: Corresponding to this year 5721, the eleventh after the passing of the previous Rebbe*. See the preceding letter) of these discourses explains, indeed, that the precious treasures are opened above — the immense wealth — and it is lavished, through the intermediary of the officers, upon the simple soldiers. You will consult this text.

You also ask me whether it is good for your son to read (note 3: The Torah*, on the day of his Bar Mitzvah*) in public what he has already learned. It seems to me that I have already specified to you in my previous letter (note 4: This is letter no. 7549) the reason I was surprised by such a practice. There is therefore no reason to go back on what is already done. Consequently, you will make use of the efforts invested and the time devoted so that he read in public, to the satisfaction of those who take pleasure in such a custom.

I hope that a Chassidic* farbrengen* indeed took place on the day of the Hilula* (note 1: Of the previous Rebbe*, the 10th of Shevat*). May Hashem grant that its concrete result be in conformity with what my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, writes (note 5: See, on this subject, letter no. 7558) regarding the Hilula* of his father, the Rebbe Rashab*, celebrated on 2 Nissan*. This explanation is reported in pamphlet no. 3, page 36. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

במענה למכתבו מערב יום ההילולא עם הפ"נ המצורף אליו שנקרא בעת רצון ביום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע על הציון הק' שלו.

ת"ח על הבשו"ט מהצלחת המסיבה דיום כ"ד טבת יום הילולא של רבנו הזקן, ויהי רצון שככתבו יעורר זה את כל אחד מאנ"ש במחנם הט' להוספה בפעולות לביסוס המוסד הק' והתפתחותו ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, ובפרט אשר מתאים לדברי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בהמשך מאמרי דא"ח שלו ליום הילולא שלו, פרק י"א אשר מלמעלה פותחים סגולות האוצרות דהון יקר וכו' ומבזבזים אותם ע"י פקידי החיל בשביל החיל (עיי"ש).

ולכתבו האם כדאי שבנו שי' יקרא בצבור כל מה שחזר כבר. - כמדומה כבר כתבתי במכתבי הקודם טעם תמיהתי על הנוהג בזה, שמזה מובן שמה שכבר נעשה הרי אין להשיב, ולפחות ינצלו והטורח והזמן ויקרא בצבור לנחת רוח אלו השואפים נחת רוח בכגון זה.

תקותי שהתועדו ביום ההילולא ויהי רצון שיתאים הבפועל למכתבו של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בהנוגע ליום ההילולא של כ"ק אביו (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע, ב' ניסן (קונ' ג, לו).
