By the grace of Hashem,

I bless you and greet you (note 1: This letter is addressed to a woman, a teacher),

You ask me how to prevent the unfortunate expressions that can be heard in your class. One must explain to them (note 2: To the students) that every Jew, man and woman, is loved by Hashem, even more than parents love their only child, whom they had at an advanced age, according to the expression of the Baal Shem Tov* (note 3: See, on this subject, letters no. 7167, 7739, and 7743). Moreover, it is said of Hashem: "He Who implants the ear, would He not hear? He Who creates the eye, would He not see?" When one speaks well of the child of Hashem, He Himself sees it, observes, listens to what is reported, the content of the word and the manner of expressing it. It is therefore quite clear that one must strive not to offend the King, the supreme King, the Holy One, blessed be He. One can establish that this is indeed so through the following a fortiori reasoning: would anyone permit himself to speak in this manner about the son of a king of flesh and blood, in his presence? (note 4: How much more so when it concerns the child of Hashem)

You will surely be able to develop this explanation and support it. Furthermore, it would be even more effective to hang up in the classroom a sentence whose meaning will be broadly the following: "Think well about what you say, for an Eye sees you and an Ear listens to you."

יש להסבירם - אשר כל אחד ואחת מבני ישראל, אהבת השי"ת אליהם עוד יותר מאהבת הורים לבן יחידם אשר נולד להם לעת זקנותם, וכתורת הבעש"ט בזה, ועוד - אשר השי"ת עליו נאמר, הנוטע אזן הלא ישמע, אם יוצר עין הלא יביט, וכשמדברים טוב על בנו של המקום ב"ה - הרי הוא רואה מביט ומקשיב הדבור תוכנו ואופן הדבור. ומובנת הזהירות שצריכה להיות בזה - שלא לפגוע במלך מה"מ הקב"ה.

ומכ"ש וק"ו, האם הי' מעיז מי שהוא לדבר לא כן על בנו של מלך בשר ודם בנוכחות המלך וכו'. ובודאי תוכל להוסיף ביאור והדגש בהאמור, ומה שיפעול עוד יותר - באם יתלו בכותל החדר בו לומדים סיסמא שתוכנה לפי ערך - התבונן מה שאתה מדבר כי עין רואה ואוזן שומעת וכו'.
