Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7576 — Faith & Bitachon

By the grace of Hashem,

24 Shevat* 5721,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter (note 1: The same letter was addressed to several people) of 20 Shevat*. May Hashem grant that you give me good tidings of what you write to me, in conformity with the beginning and foundation of these Sidros*, affirming: "They shall make Me a Sanctuary and I will dwell among them." And our Sages* observe: "It does not say 'in it,' but 'among them' — that is, within each person." In conformity with the principle that "a verse cannot be separated from its simple meaning," it is clear that this observation is also linked to: "They shall make Me a Sanctuary," which means that Hashem indeed resides in this Sanctuary. However, He is found essentially "among them." Thus, one makes a Sanctuary and the Divine Presence* resides in it solely so that the terms of the verse be fulfilled: "I will dwell among them."

This is also what can be deduced from the series of Chassidic* discourses of the Hilula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, leader of Israel (note 2: Celebrated on the 10th of Shevat*): "I have come into My garden — into the place of My delight." You will consult this text. May Hashem grant health and wealth in all domains — in what is accomplished in the world, "They shall make Me a Sanctuary," and in what is realized within oneself, "I will dwell among them." Indeed, our Sages* teach us that the Sanctuary is a place of wealth, as indicated by tractate Tamid 29a and the commentary of Rashi* at that same reference. Everything that was done there was imbued with wealth and grandeur. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

ויהי רצון שיבשר בשורות טובות בהענינים אודותם כותב, ומתאים לתחלת ויסוד פרשיות אלו, ועשו לי מקדש ושכנתי בתוכם, וביארו חז"ל, בתוכו לא נאמר, אלא בתוכם בתוך כל אחד ואחד.

שבודאי ע"פ הכלל, אין מקרא יוצא מידי פשוטו, קשור זה גם עם ועשו לי מקדש, שגם במקדש שוכן אלא שהעיקר הוא בתוכם, ועשיית המקדש ושכינה במקדש עי"ז הענין דושכנתי בתוכם.

וכמובן ג"כ מהמשך מאמר ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר נשיא ישראל, באתי לגני לגנוני, יעו"ש.

ויהי רצון שיהי' בכל הענינים, הן בהפעולות בעולם (ועשו לי מקדש) והן בהפעולות בעצמו (ושכנתי בתוכם) בבריאות ובעשירות, שהרי הורונו חז"ל, דמקדש מקום עשירות הוא (עיין תמיד כט, א ברש"י ד"ה אבל) דכל מעשיהם בעושר ובשררה.
