To Mr. Tzvi Gat,

I greet you and bless you,

After a particularly long interruption, I duly received your letter, sent from your new office in Senegal. I took note with interest of the details of your activity in that place. I hope that in every place you visit in which our brethren, the children of Israel, are to be found, you endeavor to meet them. And, indeed, is there a country or a city where they are not present? You will therefore remind them of their origins, you will encourage them, and you will strengthen them. Indeed, among the actions we accomplish in this world, we do not always know which ones are essential. And, it is conceivable that the One Who is the origin of all actions brings about various actions, circumstances, and developments solely so that one event, one encounter, one specific aspect may occur (note 1: A single encounter, with a single Jew, can therefore, by itself, justify the descent of a soul to this world). One can observe this also in the natural order that surrounds us. In the plant kingdom, for example, fertilization is effected by pollen that spreads by the millions. Yet, only a few particles will actually accomplish this fertilization (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 5050). And, the same is true also for seeds and plants.

I thank you for the details you communicated to me concerning Kfar Chabad*, in our Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, its development and its settlement. As is the traditional custom of Israel, as the Festival of Matzos* approaches, the time of our freedom, I will conclude by expressing to you my warm wishes for a Kosher* and joyous festival, for a true freedom, both physical and moral, an effective liberation from all constraints, from everything that prevents each person from carrying out the mission entrusted to him by Divine Providence*. אחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו ממקום משרדו החדש בסנגל, ובהתענינות קראתי על דבר פרטי עבודתו שם. תקותי אשר בכל מקום שמבקר, אם נמצאים שם אחינו בני ישראל, ולכאורה אין לך מדינה ועיר שאין שם מבני ישראל, משתדל להפגש אתם ומזכירם ומעוררם ומעודדם על גזע צור מחצבתם, וכו' וכו'. והרי לא תמיד יודעים אנו בפעולותינו בעולם הזה מהו העיקר, עד שאפשר הדבר שמסבב הסיבות גורם לכמה סיבות ופעולות וענינים בשביל מאורע אחד, פגישה אחת ופרט אחד. ורואים זה גם בסדר הטבע הסובב אותנו, ולדוגמא בעולם הצומח, הרי ההפרי' הבאה על ידי אבק הזרע הנפוץ בכמה מליונים, רק אחדים מהם מפריחים ומצמיחים, ועל דרך זה גם בנוגע לגרעינים וזרעים וכו'.

כמנהג ישראל המסורתי, הנה בהתקרבנו לחג המצות זמן חירותנו, אחתום באיחולים לבביים לחג כשר ושמח ולחירות אמתית בעניני הגוף והנפש גם יחד, חירות אמתית מכל הענינים המבלבלים ומפריעים איש איש במלוי תפקידו שהטילה עליו ההשגחה העליונה.
