Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7628 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 20 · Letter 184 · To: distingué ‘Hassid qui craint D.ieu

By the grace of Hashem,

18 Nissan* 5721,

Brooklyn,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Naftali (note 1: Rav N. Arenberg),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received the book you published, the Divrei Shaul (note 2: The Words of Shaul), and I thank you very much for it. This follows our discussion when we met. It is no doubt also the occasion to mention an essential point that we then addressed. I am speaking of the use of your capacities and your knowledge for the purpose of disseminating both the revealed part of the Torah* and Chassidus*, the one and the other constituting a single Torah*. We have been enjoined to do so, at all times and in all places. And, how much more is this the case in our era of the heel of Moshiach* (note 3: Just before his coming). Indeed, one knows the holy epistle of the Baal Shem Tov* according to which, when his wellsprings (note 4: The wellsprings of his teaching, Chassidus*) would spread outward, "the master would come," meaning King Moshiach*. And, one can concretely observe that this country has become a center of our people, the children of Israel, not only in the material sense, but also spiritually. You must understand what I mean (note 5: It is therefore from this place that this dissemination must take place).

Consequently, whoever has the possibility of acting in this matter has the obligation, which is also a merit, to intervene "as one must do," in the expression of our Sages*. And, one knows that the Torah*, when it issues an Injunction, also infuses the strength to put it into practice, all the more so since, in this matter, the merit of the many is at stake. In this time of our freedom, in which one is delivered from everything that obstructs, may Hashem grant that it be so in this domain as well. I would be happy to receive good tidings on this subject. With my respects and my blessing,

(Due to the sanctity of the festival, the Rebbe* Shlita* did not sign the present letter and I therefore do so in his name)
