To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Naftali (note 1: Rav N. Junik, of Montreal. See, regarding him, letter no. 6689), Shochet* and examiner,
I greet you and bless you,
I am responding to your letter of the first day of Parshas* Behaalosecha* (note 2: The 13th of Sivan*), "when you raise the lights." In fact, the Rambam* rules that the lighting of the Menorah* concerns Kohanim*, Leviim*, and Israelites alike, according to its simple meaning and, even more, according to its allusive and profound meaning. Now, as the Likkutei Torah* explains at the beginning of this Parshah*, this Menorah* alludes to the souls of the children of Israel.
At a propitious moment, your name will be mentioned near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, so that you fully assume your appointment (note 3: As Shochet* in Montreal), of which our Sages* say that it emanates from Heaven (note 4: They say that this is so for every appointment, of whatever kind). You will do so down to the smallest detail, in a pleasant and peaceful manner. And, one can establish a connection between what has just been explained and your appointment. Indeed, the man who lights the Menorah* illuminates everything that concerns him, as well as his entire surroundings. Thereupon, one can discover the path that is upright and just. This is self-evident. With my blessing to give good tidings,

במענה למכתבו מיום הראשון דפרשת בהעלותך את הנרות (וידוע פס"ד הרמב"ם דהדלקת המנורה [שכמבואר בלקו"ת ריש פרשה זו, מרמזת על נשמות בני ישראל] שייכת לכהנים לוים וישראלים גם כפשוטה ועאכו"כ ברמזי' ובפנימיותה).
בעת רצון יזכירוהו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שהמינוי שהוטל עליו כמאמר רז"ל, מן שמיא קא ממנו לי', ימלא אותו כדבעי בכל הפרטים ובדרכי נועם ושלום.
וי"ל בשייכות המבואר לעיל עם ענין המינוי, כי ע"י הדלקת נרות מאירה את הענינים ואת הסביבה ורואים הדרך הישרה והנכונה וק"ל.
