To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of manifold accomplishments, the Rav Shmuel (note 1: Rav S. Wolkin, of Brooklyn. See, regarding him, letter no. 6882),

I bless you and greet you,

I am responding to your letter concerning the Sefer HaYereim*, which you sent me some time ago. You will kindly excuse me. When I received it, I began to consult it with great interest and, as is my habit, I wished to formulate at least two or three remarks on this commentary. But, for various reasons, I was unable to continue doing so, and thus was fulfilled the saying of our Sages*: "Do not say: when I have the time, I will study..." (note 2: "For perhaps you will not have the time"). In any event, I thank you for having sent it to me.

May Hashem grant that you multiply your vigor in the Torah* and the dissemination of Judaism in a constantly increasing manner, for our country (note 3: The United States) is very much in need of it, as is the present era. Moreover, this moment is particularly propitious, beyond all comparison, for achieving success in this matter, on condition that one conducts an uncompromising effort, in an assertive manner. This is self-evident. With my respects and my blessing,

במענה למכתבו אודות הספר יראים, ששלח מזמן.

את כת"ר רוב הסליחה, כי לחביבותא דמילתא התחלתי כשנת' הס' בזמנו לעיין עליו, וכדרכי בכגון דא רציתי להוסיף עכ"פ ב' ג' הערות על הפירוש, ומפני כמה סיבות עדיין לא המשכתי, ונתקיים המאמר, אל תאמר לכשאפנה אשנה וכו' ובכ"א ת"ח על משלוח הספר.

ויהי רצון שכת"ר ירבה חיילים לאורייתא ועניני הפצת היהדות באופן דמוסיף והולך שזקוקה לזה מדינתנו זו, ושעתה, וביחד עם זה - שעת הכושר מאין כמוה להצלחה ובלבד שיעשו מבלי פשרות ובגלוי, וק"ל.
