To my close relative, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Yehudah Leib (note 1: Rav Y. L. Schneersohn, of Romema, Jerusalem),

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of 5 Tammuz*, in which you discuss a gathering, to be held in the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, of the descendants of the Rebbetzin* (note 2: The Rebbetzin* Menucha Rachel, who was at the origin of the Jewish settlement in Chevron*), daughter of the Mitteler Rebbe*. The decision in this matter depends on the presence of a person who will be able to devote himself to the event with all the required vitality, so that it may be planned and organized. It is said: "In all your ways, know Him" and this injunction is clearly defined by Chassidus*. In this case, such a gathering must take place insofar as it motivates toward what was the worldview and the way of life of the Rebbetzin*. It is not merely a matter of commemorating what took place before, but rather of encouraging, in the present, the conduct and the existence that one must adopt on a daily basis. This is self-evident.

In this perspective, everything that contributes to traditional Judaism, to our Torah* and to its Mitzvos*, in particular that which is illuminated by the Chassidic* clarity and warmth, is indeed judicious and good. One is surely preparing for the festival of liberation (note 3: Of the Frierdiker Rebbe*, from the Soviet prisons) of the 12th and 13th of Tammuz*, which is approaching. The purpose of every Chassidic* gathering is to draw motivation from the propitious days, in order to put it to use throughout the year. With my blessing to give good tidings and on the occasion of the festival of liberation,

במענה למכתבו מה' תמוז, בו כותב אודות ענין כינוס באה"ק ת"ו של נכדי הרבנית, בתו של אדמו"ר האמצעי, ז"ל.

והחלטה בזה תלוי' באם יהי' מי שיתעניין בזה במרץ הדרוש בכדי שיהי' הדבר מתוכנן ומסודר.

וע"פ ההוראה דבכל דרכיך דעהו וביותר ביאור בזה בתורת החסידות, מסודר בהנ"ל הכוונה שתבוא מהכינוס התעוררות לענינים הקשורים בהשקפת עולמה ואורח חיי' של הרבנית הנ"ל, ולא רק זכרון של ימי קדם וכו' כ"א התעוררות בהווה בהנוגע להנהגה ועד לחיי היום יומים וק"ל.

ובאופן כזה הרי כל ענין שמוסיף ביהדות המסורתית תורתינו ומצותי' בפרט כשמואר באור וחיות חסידותי, נכון וטוב הוא.

בודאי מתכוננים לחג הגאולה י"ב וי"ג תמוז הבע"ל וכמטרת כל התועדות יקחו מהתעוררות דימי סגולה אלו ע"מ להביאם בפועל במשך כל השנה.
