By the grace of Hashem,

Days of the liberation,

12th and 13th of Tammuz* 5721,

Brooklyn, New York,

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter (note 1: A single letter was addressed to several people) of the second day of Rosh Chodesh* Tammuz*, as well as the one that preceded it. We are in propitious days, the 12th and 13th of Tammuz*, the liberation of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, leader of Israel, which are simultaneously the liberation of all those who are connected to him and to his accomplishments, within all of Israel, for "the body follows the head."

In this favorable period, may Hashem grant that this liberation lead us very soon to the complete redemption. Indeed, our Parshah* formulates the following promise: "A star has made its way from Yaakov* (note 2: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "The Yerushalmi*, tractate Maaser Sheni*, at the end of the fourth chapter, emphasizes that these words apply to every Jew. In tractate Taanis*, chapter 4, paragraph 4, which is cited by the Ramban* and by several other commentators of the Torah*, it is specified that this verse alludes to the Moshiach*. But these two assertions are not contradictory, quite the contrary. Indeed, the Baal Shem Tov* explains, in the Maor Einayim*, at the end of Parshas* Pinchas*, that every Jew must transform and prepare 'the portion of the Moshiach* that is found in his soul.' One can deduce what follows for the service of Hashem from the explanation of the Alter Rebbe*, developed in the fourth chapter of Iggeres HaKodesh*") and a king directs Israel... And Israel performs great feats (note 3: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "See the commentary of the holy Or HaChaim* on this verse and the Torah Or*, Parshas* Yisro*, page 74b, which says: 'The purpose of the exile is what results from it'").

ובעמדנו בימי סגולה יב-יג תמוז, גאולת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר נשיא ישראל, ואתו עמו גאולת כל השייכים אליו ולעניניו (כי גופא בתר רישא אזיל), בתוככי כלל ישראל,

יהי רצון בעת רצון זו אשר מגאולה האמורה נזכה בקרוב ממש לגאולה השלימה,

כהיעוד דפרשת שבוע זה: דרך כוכב מיעקב וקם שבט מישראל גו' וישראל עושה חיל.

דרך כוכב מיעקב: ראה ירוש' (מעשר שני ספ"ד) דלכל או"א מבנ"י שייך זה. והנה לפי ירוש' תענית פ"ד ה"ה (וכ"פ הרמב"ן וכמה ממפרשי החומש) מדבר הכתוב במשיח. ואין בזה סתירה, ואדרבה - ע"פ מאמר הבעש"ט נבג"מ שצריך כל א' מישראל לתקן ולהכין "חלק קומת משיח השייך לנשמתו" (מאור עינים ס"פ פנחס). ומובן בעבודת האדם - ע"פ מש"כ רבנו הזקן באגרת הקדש ס"ד.
