I am responding to your letter of this Thursday, in which you speak to me about the education of your son. You provide me with some explanations on this subject. Now, the decision in this matter depends on various points, in particular on his character traits. It would be good to seek the counsel of those who know him and who are aware of all the details (note 1: Of these character traits). Very often, in such cases, it is precisely the parents who are not in a position to formulate a fully authoritative opinion in the evaluation they make of their children. Indeed, a risk exists in this matter. They can sometimes deviate too strongly to the right (note 2: Through an excess of severity), while at other times, proximity produces the opposite effect, just as it is said: "A person does not present himself either as a righteous man or as..." (note 3: A wicked man).

Hashem grants His Providence* to each person and may He grant that you make the decision that is truly good for your son, with a good that is both material and spiritual. Everything being an effect of this Divine Providence*, I have the duty and the merit, as our holy masters request, of emphasizing to you the necessity of fixing a time to study the profound dimension of the Torah*, which, in our era, has been revealed through Chassidus*. You will study it each day and, in an increased manner, during the Shabbos*, which is holy to Hashem.

במענה למכתבו מיום החמישי, בו כותב אודות חינוך בנו... שי', והסברות שבדבר,

וכיון שהחלטה בזה תלוי' בכמה פרטים וביחוד בתכונת הנפש של הנ"ל - מהנכון להתייעץ בהאמור עם אלו המכירים בנו שי' ופרטים אלו. והרי לפעמים הכי קרובות בכגון דא דוקא ההורים שיחיו אינם נאמנים כ"כ בהערכת ילידיהם שיחיו. והחשש, לא רק שיכולים לנטות לימין יותר, אלא שלפעמים מפני הקורבה גם - להיפך, וע"ד אין אדם משים עצמו צדיק ולא וכו'.

ויהי רצון מהשי"ת המשגיח על כאו"א בהשגחה פרטית, שיחליטו בהאמור בטוב באמת לבנם שי', טוב בגשם וברוח גם יחד.

ומאחר שהכל בהשגחה פרטית, עלי החובה (והזכות) כמצוה מרבוה"ק, לעוררו על ההכרח לקבוע עתים בלימוד פנימיות התורה שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות, קביעות בכל יום ובהוספה ביום השבת אשר קדש הוא לה'.
