15 Menachem Av* 5721,

To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of manifold knowledge, the Rav A. Y. (note 1: Rav Avraham Yaakov Neumark, of Tel Aviv. See, regarding him, letter no. 2689),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter of 11 Menachem Av* (note 2: This letter was written as a preamble to the preceding one) and it is entirely correct that I received your books in their time. You will kindly excuse me for not having yet acknowledged their receipt. Indeed, in keeping with my custom, and in order to show my interest in the books and commentaries of the Torah*, I read them, at least quickly, and I endeavor to enclose with my letter some remarks, in application of a teaching of our Sages* on this matter. I therefore wait for at least a second opportunity to consult these works (note 3: In order to formulate these remarks). But, sometimes this takes time, so that the words of the Mishnah* are fulfilled: "Do not say: I will study when I have the time" (note 4: "For perhaps you will not have the time"). This is precisely what occurred in this case. As I said, you will kindly excuse me.

שלום וברכה!

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מי"א מנ"א, ואמת נכון הדבר שבעתו נתקבלו ספריו. ואת כת"ר רוב הסליחה, שעוד לא נשלח האישור, כי כדרכי במילי דחביבותא - ספרים וחדו"ת, קורא הנני בהם עכ"פ בחפזה, וכרגיל בכגון דא ברצוני לצרף להאישור איזו הערות, וע"פ מאמר חז"ל בזה, מעכב הנני שילוחם עד שתהי' הזדמנות שני' לעבור עליהם עכ"פ פעם שני'. ולפעמים מתעכב הדבר ומתקיים דבר המשנה, אל תאמר לכשאפנה אשנה וכו'. וככל הדברים האלה קרה בנוגע להנ"ל, וכנ"ל אתו רוב הסליחה...
