Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7742 — Faith & Bitachon

I am responding to your letter of Rosh Chodesh* Elul*, in which you inform me of your birthday. You also indicate to me in which institution you are pursuing your studies. You did not choose the one that you cite because, according to you, the school that you attend possesses a better level. You will understand that I am astonished and surprised by this, all the more so as I know your family, a Chassidic* home, and the education that you received is in this direction. It should therefore be perfectly clear in your mind, in the most decisive manner, that the highest level resides in the fact that a school is founded and directed by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, leader of Israel. In this sense, it goes without saying that academic knowledge is not essential. Its consequences, on the other hand, are, and these must conform to the mission that man receives in this world. Our Sages* formulate the following affirmation: "I was created to serve my Creator" and, to attain this, one must receive an education permeated with fear of Hashem and heavenly assistance.

As you write, a new year is now beginning and it is said that: "the number of years confers wisdom." May Hashem therefore grant that you become aware of the truth. Indeed, it is said that "the beginning of wisdom is the fear of Hashem." It is therefore necessary to receive one's education in a Chassidic* context, within the four cubits of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*. Without a doubt, it is in this way that one elicits immense divine mercy, including in the other domains where it is necessary.

Without a doubt, certain people have followed your example in the choice of their school. May Hashem therefore grant that in the future, you present the image of a Chassidic* young woman, both in your education and in the place that you attend. I am alluding very simply, as I have said, to a school of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, leader of Israel. With my blessing to give good tidings at the earliest, to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

במענה למכתבה מר"ח אלול, בו כותבת ע"ד יום הולדת שלה, וגם אודות מקום לימודה - שאינו ב... מפני שלדעתה מוסד חינוך אשר ב...אינו באותו הרמה.

ומובנת הפליאה והתמי' ובפרט בידעי ביתה, בית חסידותי וחינוכה מסוג זה, שעפי"ז צ"ל ברור בדעתה ובהחלט שהרמה הכי גדולה הוא זה - מה שהמוסד מיסודו ובהנהלתו של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר נשיא ישראל, והפי' בודאי שלא הידיעה עיקר, כי אם התוצאות - שתהיינה מתאימות לתפקיד האדם בעולמו, כדברי חכמינו ז"ל, אני נבראתי לשמש את קוני, שמילוי התפקיד תלוי במדת היראת שמים שבהחינוך ובהעזר מלמעלה, בסייעתא דשמיא.

וכיון שככתבה נכנסת בשנה החדשה, אשר רוב שנים יודיעו חכמה, יהי רצון מהשי"ת, שיעמידה על האמת, שראשית חכמה - יראת ה' להתחנך במסגרת חסידותית, בד' אמות של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, שבודאי על ידי זה יוסיף בהתעוררות רחמים רבים גם בהנוגע לשאר עניני'.

ויהי רצון שתמורת זה, שבטח היו כאלה שלמדו ממנה בהנוגע למוסד חינוכם כנ"ל, הנה מכאן ולהבא תשמש דוגמא חי' לבת חסידותית - בחינוכה ומקום המצאה, כוונתי כפשוטה, חינוך במוסד כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר נשיא ישראל, כאמור לעיל.
