To the young man Yosef (note 1: Rav Y. Hartman, of Lod),

I greet you and bless you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter of 25 Menachem Av*, briefly describing to me the summer camp of Kfar Chabad* and drawing up an assessment of it. Happy is your portion, as well as that of the other counselors, among all the directors who had the merit of devoting themselves to this accomplishment, of drawing close the hearts of the children of Israel to our Father Who is in Heaven.

The saying (note 2: See letter no. 7739) of our master, the Baal Shem Tov*, is well known, according to which the love of Hashem for Israel is even more intense than that of parents for their only son, born when they were already of advanced age. What is more, one can observe that by directing children during vacation, when they are freed from all other influence (note 3: Stemming from secular studies), when they spend the entire day in this atmosphere and with these directives, one marks them more profoundly and more lastingly than at school.

The Alter Rebbe* explains, at the beginning of the Torah Or*, that "one thereby obtains (note 4: By devoting one's time to others. See letter no. 7739) a brain and a heart a thousand times more refined." May Hashem therefore grant that it be so in your personal study, during the coming year, with joy and enthusiasm. With my blessing to give good tidings and to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מכ"ה מנ"א, ר"פ ודו"ח מהקייטנא אשר בכפר חב"ד.

ואשרי חלקו וחלק כל המדריכים שיחיו, בתוככי כללות ההנהלה שי' שזכו לעסוק בהאמור, שנקודתה הפנימית, קירוב לבן של בני ישראל לאבינו שבשמים.

וידוע פתגם הבעש"ט, אשר אהבת השי"ת לבן ישראל, היא גדולה באין ערוך מאהבת הורים זקנים לבן יחידם שנולד להם לעת זקנותם להבדיל.

ובפרט שרואים במוחש, אשר הדרכת ילדים בימי החופש, שפנוים מהשפעה אחרת ונמצאים כל שעות היממה באותה האוירה ובאותה ההשפעה, חודרת בעומק יותר ורישומה ניכר לאורך זמן יותר, מאשר לימודם בבית הספר וכו'.

ויהי רצון אשר כמאמר רבנו הזקן (תו"א בהתחלתו) שעי"ז נעשה מוחו ולבו זכים אלף פעמים ככה, יתוסף כהנ"ל, בלימוד לעצמו במשך זמן הבע"ל ומתוך שמחה וטוב לבב.
