After a long interruption, I duly received your letter of 4 Elul*, with the request for a blessing that was enclosed, which will be read, at a propitious moment, near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. Since you transmitted this request to me, may Hashem grant that you give me good tidings of it. In fact, I am surprised to observe that the Chassidim* and especially the former students of the Yeshivah* have not adopted the habit of transmitting good tidings, of a visible and tangible good, despite the numerous remarks that I have formulated on this subject (note 1: See letter no. 3264). There are, however, many occasions to do so and, without a doubt, this will reduce the number of times that one must write about hidden blessings (note 2: Which can, outwardly, take on the appearance of the contrary of good). Despite this, I observe, for the time being, no evolution in this direction.
We are in days of mercy and goodwill (note 3: Those of the month of Elul*). May Hashem therefore grant that a change from one extreme to the other take place in this matter, which means that the hidden blessings will be revealed (note 4: Will become evident blessings), that one person will announce to another only a visible and tangible good. With my blessing to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

לאחרי הפסק ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מד' אלול עם הפ"נ המצורף שיקרא בעת רצון על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ויהי רצון שכשם שהביא הבקשה כן יבשר טוב בזה.
ולפלא על אנ"ש וביחוד התמימים, שלמרות שכמה פעמים העירותי שלולי התרגלו לכתוב בשו"ט בטוב הנראה והנגלה, אשר כו"כ הזדמנויות ישנם בזה, בודאי שזה הי' ממעט בההזדמנויות לכתוב מענינים שהם מחסדים המכוסים. ולע"ע לא ניכרת הזזה בזה.
ובהמצאנו בימי רחמים ורצון אלו, יהי רצון שגם בזה ישתנה הדבר מן הקצה אל הקצה, ז.א. שחסדים המכוסים יתגלו, ואך טוב בטוב הנראה יבשרו איש לרעהו.
