I bless you and greet you abundantly,

On the occasion of the coming year, I express to you my wishes that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, a year of happiness and honor, a year of life, peace, and broad success in all that you undertake. May Hashem grant that the coming days bring an abundance of good and that, within all of Israel, we all merit the complete and true redemption. Mr. Hadakov (note 4: This letter and the following one, published in no. 115 of the magazine "Der Yiddisher Heim," of Av-Elul 5753 — 1993, are addressed to Rav Chaim Mordechai Aizik Hadakov, who subsequently became the personal secretary of the Rebbe* and who then accompanied him in all his accomplishments for approximately fifty years),

I am sending you the Chassidic* discourse entitled: "I am" (note 5: Which was delivered during the week of Parshas* Yisro* 5690 — 1930 — in Chicago and which is printed in the Sefer HaMaamarim* 5707, at page 208. Regarding this discourse, the Rebbe Rayatz* writes in his journal, cited by the Yemei Melech*, volume 1, at page 328: "Friday the 30th, first day of Rosh Chodesh* Adar*, a long letter to my son-in-law, the Ramam, accompanied by the Chassidic* discourse entitled: 'I am,' which was delivered during Parshas* Yisro*"), since I had promised to send it to you. You will kindly keep your word in turn and return it to me at the earliest. I recall, indeed, our verbal exchange concerning this discourse, regarding Shabbos*. If I find a free moment, I will endeavor to do what we agreed upon, but I do not know whether the period is propitious for this, for my occupations are many. From your friend, who respects you and wishes you well,

I duly received your letter regarding the calendar. I requested it today, but it is not available, for few are those who have use for such a calendar for Russia (note 7: It was proposed to have it brought from that country). It was proposed to have it brought from there, but this will take much time.

מכתבו ע"ד הלוח קבלתי. היום שאלתי אודותו, והנה עתה אינו אצלם, מפני מעט הדורשים אחרי לוח מרוסי' כזה, הציע לדרשו מרוסי', אבל ה"ז הלכתא לעידן ועדנים ולכן לא הסכמתי ע"ז.

נתן לי כתובת בוארשא, אשר אולי ישנו למכירה שם. ואפשר ינסה כבו' בזה.

אבל אשנה עוד הפעם, את אשר הגדתי לו גם אשתקד: בודאי ימצא בביבליותיקה של האוניורסיטה בריגא לוחות, בספר-השנה לתכונה, וכיו"ב לעשרות ובם ימצא כל הנחוץ להערכת לוח השקיעה לאופקי מוסקבא, ל"נ וכ'ו. לדוגמא: יצא כבר בעד שנות 31 - 1930, Berliner Astron. jahrb. ועל פיו יוכל להעריך לוח-השקיעה בנקל, במשך יום ויומים. חסתי על ממונו - מחיר כ"א מרק - ולא קניתיו, כי בטח ילוו לו לימים אחדים, ואח"כ הרי אינו נצרך לו.

בעוד ימים אחדים אבוא לריגא, אבל אמהר במכתבי זה אולי נחוץ הדבר בהקדם.
