Yeshivah*, Rav Y. L. HaLevi (note 1: Rav Yehudah Leib Horowitz. See, regarding him, letters no. 203, 2405, 4187, and 7782), Dorchester,

I greet you and bless you,

We duly received your letter of the 5th of Shevat* and that of Monday of Parshas Yisro*, to which was attached the check for eight dollars and eighty-four cents, as well as the dollar that you added yourself. We thank you. For reasons beyond our control, we sent you the calendars with a delay. We also shipped the rest of what you requested and you have no doubt already received everything. We thank you for the interest that you have shown until now in the dissemination of our publications. Without a doubt, you will redouble your efforts in this regard in the future, in greatly increased proportion, so as to be among those who acquire merit themselves and who confer it broadly upon others.

It is surely unnecessary to explain the importance that all of this carries and one knows what our Sages observe, in tractate Kiddushin* 40a: "Merit bears its fruits." Thus, a small seed is at the origin of a great tree bearing fruits, and the same is true when one leads an acquaintance to carry out an action that, at first glance, seems modest — for example, consulting a talk of my father-in-law, the Rebbe* Shlita*, or relating to one's son a story of our Sages. Ultimately, all of this can have positive effects that are impossible to measure at the outset. And, one Mitzvah* draws another, to infinity.

ביאור גודל ערך ענינים אלו אך למותר. וידוע מרז"ל - קדושין מ, א - אשר זכות עושה פרות, היינו כמו שמגרעין קטן נצמח אילן גדול עושה פרות, כך עי"ז שיגרום שמכירו יעשה איזה פעולה הנראית לקטנה בהשקפה ראשונה, וכמו: שיעיין בשיחת כ"ק מו"ח אד"ש, יספר לבנו מעשי' ממרז"ל וכיו"ב, אפשר שבמשך הזמן יביא תוצאות טובות שא"א לשערם מראש. ומצוה גוררת מצוה עד א"ס.
