By the grace of Hashem,

Eve of the holy Shabbos* Parshas Parah* 5703,

To our friend, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of

multiple accomplishments, Rav Y. L. HaLevi (note 1: Rav Yehudah Leib Horowitz of Dorchester. See, regarding him, letter no. 7779),

I greet you and bless you,

I am following up on our discussion, at various times, concerning your effort to mobilize financial means in order to publish the Tanya* (note 2: It was then planned to publish the Tanya in the United States, as indicated by letter no. 62, but in practice, this project did not come to fruition and this edition was produced in Tel Aviv, as specified in letter no. 7785). No doubt you will inform us of what resulted from your intervention, the importance and great value of which need not be specified. I have good hope that you will do, in this matter, everything in your power. Indeed, one refines the atmosphere of the world through the words of the Torah* and of prayer, in the image of the worm of the red heifer, as the Likkutei Torah* explains in the Chassidic* discourse entitled: "This is the Decree," in chapter 4. And, one can think that by studying the Tanya*, which is a collection of counsel for the service of Hashem, one accomplishes both at once (note 3: One reads both the words of the Torah and those of prayer). Now, one confers a merit upon those who possess it by nature and, from this perspective, one knows the distinction that must be made between the Kohanim* and the Levi'im* (note 4: The addressee of this letter is a Levi). Indeed, it is said of the latter that they are pure. With my blessing of immediate Teshuvah*, immediate redemption,

בודאי יודיענו תוצאות פעולתו בזה, ולמותר להאריך בגודל נחיצות הענין ורום ערכו, ותקותי חזקה אשר יעשה ככל יכולתו בזה, ומגלגלים זכות -

זיכוך אויר העולם ע"י אותיות התורה והתפלה, תולע ותולעת דמעשה הפרה וכמש"פ בלקו"ת ד"ה זאת חקת ס"ד.

וי"ל דבלמוד התניא שזהו לקוטי עצות בעבודה שבלב ישנם שני הענינים - ע"י זכאי (ולהעיר מחילוק כהנים ולוים אשר לוים הם בחי' טהר).
