We (note 1: This letter was addressed to three soldiers, the Rabbanim* Nathan Fucker, Paul Goldstein, and Leo Lauger) always keep a good memory of your visit present in our minds. No doubt you have sewn a coin into your Tallis Katan*, as my father-in-law, the Rebbe* (note 2: As a protection. See, on this subject, the Igros Kodesh* of the Rebbe Rayatz*, volume 7, letter no. 1873), asked you to do. Furthermore, you put on Tefillin* (note 3: Including at the front) and you observe the other points (note 4: Intended to protect soldiers in combat). To the extent possible, you help your friends (note 5: The other Jewish soldiers of the American army) to put into practice the Torah* and the Mitzvos*. I thank you for informing me, from time to time, how you are doing and how all of this is going. With my blessing for success, for all that is good, and for a joyous Purim* (note 6: This letter was therefore written during the month of Adar*), with the fall of the enemy (note 7: The Nazi regime), very soon and in our days, just as Haman fell in his time,

This letter was therefore written in Adar* 5703 (1943) or in Adar* 5704 (1944)) after the meal and Conversations with the Youth. When you have free moments, you must motivate yourselves to the practice of the Torah* and the Mitzvos*. Furthermore, it is proper to concern yourselves with the conduct of your friends in this matter. Indeed, the Torah* and the Mitzvos* protect and save from all evil.
