I duly received your letter (note 1: This letter is addressed to Rav Mendel Horowitz) and what it contained, a check for three dollars. I thank you. I thank you for your remark concerning the initials (note 2: Rav Horowitz wrote: "You sent me three books, whose content is good and just, which is indisputable. I observe therein, however, a deficiency. One finds there very numerous terms indicated by their initials, which it is not always possible to interpret. In my humble opinion, it is therefore proper to avoid them, to the fullest extent possible, so as not to render these works impenetrable to the reader"). We will take it into account. Regarding Chavenson (note 3: Rav Horowitz wrote: "I have carried out your mission and I did what you asked me. I spoke to this old man, Mr. Chavenson, about the books that you plan to publish. But I observe several difficulties. This man is blind, elderly. He has already distributed his possessions among his children and he has already sent you one hundred dollars, so that he possesses nothing more"), we presented the content of your letter to the Rebbe*, who asked that this be conveyed to him (note 4: See, on this subject, the Igros Kodesh* of the Rebbe Rayatz*, volume 8, letters no. 2376 and 2377, volume 6, letters no. 1581 and 1582, volume 13, letter no. 4855): Hashem will grant him a long life and he must speak to his sons so that they give him the means to publish a book in his merit, as we specified to him in a previous letter. "To one who begins to put into practice a Mitzvah*..." (note 5: One is asked to carry it through to completion). You will therefore take the trouble to carry out this mission to completion. בנוגע לחאוענסאן - הצענו תוכן מכ' לפני כק"ש ואמר אשר ימסרו לחאוענסאן: שיברכו השי"ת באריכות ימים, ושעליו לדבר עם בניו שיתנו לו האמצעים להדפיס איזה ספר לזכותו, וכמו שכתבו לו במכ' הקודם.

המתחיל במצוה כו' ובודאי יקח ע"ע גם הטרחא בשליחות זו, ות"ח מראש.

הערתו ע"ד הר"ח: במכתבו: אודות השלשה ספרים ששלחתם... אמנם תוכן הספרים נכוחים ונכונים ואין לפקפק בדבר, אף מגרעת אחת מצאתי, הראשי תיבות המה למכביר ורבים, מה אין באפשרי לעמוד על אופים, ע"כ לפי ענ"ד צריכים למעט בר,ת בכל מה דאפשר למען לא יהיו בעינינ הקורא כספר החתום.

בנוגע לחאוענסאן: במכתבו: קיימתי בקשתכם ומלאתי רצונכם, ודיברתי עם הזקן והישיש מר חאווינסאן אודות הספרים שברצונכם להספיסם, ומצאתי כמה מגרעות...

הוא סומא... הוא זקן... חילק את הונו ורכושו ליוצאי חלציו... שלח למו"ר סך מאר דאלאר ולא נשאר לו מאומה.
