To the attention of the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav M. Lipsker (note 1: Rav Michael Lipsker, of Paris, brother of Rav Yaakov Lipsker. See, regarding him, letter no. 6931, the two preceding letters, and letter no. 7920),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter of Thursday of Parshas Devarim* (note 2: The 7th of Menachem Av* 5707 (1947)):

A) I am enclosing two letters for Eranie and Boissy (note 3: Communities of Chassidim* in the outskirts of Paris. See letter no. 7812). With these, you will take from the packages five Siddurim* Tehillas Hashem, three copies of volumes 1 and 2 of the Sifreinu, as well as volumes 1 and 2 of the Unzer Buch (note 3: Communities of Chassidim* in the outskirts of Paris. See letter no. 7812). You will kindly offer a book to each child that I interviewed, as I specified in my letter. Furthermore, I have already indicated to Rav Sh. Z. Butman what should be done with the other books. The leaders of Eranie and Boissy will surely acknowledge receipt of these books to me.

B) My close relative, Rav Sh. Z. (note 4: Rav Shneur Zalman Schneersohn, of Paris), told me that he telegraphed you last week.

C) It is regrettable that eagerness is not being shown concerning the Maamad* (note 5: See, on this subject, letters no. 7809 and 7812). Unfortunately, each person has a logical reason to justify his attitude in this matter.

One can also cite the Parshah* of this week (note 6: Parshas Eikev*), which begins with: "And it shall be if you listen to these Judgments." In this verse, it is precisely a question of "Judgments," and one will consult, on this subject, the commentary of the Ramban* on the Torah*. Now, my father-in-law, the Rebbe* Shlita*, explains the quality of the heel (note 7: Eikev*, a term which, in this verse, is translated as "if"), which alludes to submission, for example in the Chassidic* discourse entitled: "The Holy One, blessed be He, does not act with treachery toward His creatures," which is found in the Sefer HaMaamarim* (note 8: The Sefer HaMaamarim* Yiddish of the previous Rebbe*). This means that, with regard to these "Judgments," precepts that one can justify rationally, who knows, if one sets aside submission, to what extent one will continue to observe them in the long run? א) מוסג"פ שני מכתבים לעראני ובואסי וביחד עמהם יקבל מהחבילות חמשה סי' תהלת השם ושלשה מספרנו ח"א ח"ב ואונזער בוך ח"א וח"ב. ומטובו לתת לכ"א מהילדים שבחנתים תשורה ספר אחד וכמ"ש במכתבי (בנוגע לשאר הספרים כבר כתבתי להרש"ז שי' בוטמאן), ובודאי יאשרו הנהלת עראני ובואסי את קבלתם.

ב) ש"ב הררש"ז שי' א"ל שעוד בשבוע העבר טלגרף להם.

ג) חבל שאין מזדרזין בענין המעמד. ודא עקא שבשכל הרי יש עוד לכל אחד טעם ע"ז ג"כ.

וי"ל בפרשת השבוע שמתחלת והי' עקב תשמעון את המשפטים, שנקט משפטים דוקא (ועיין ברמב"ן עה"ת), עפמ"ש כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א במעלת העקב שזו ענין הקבלת עול (ד"ה אין הקב"ה בא בטרוניא שבס' המאמרים ועוד), וקמ"ל שאפילו משפטים, מצות שכליות, הנה לולא ענין הקב"ע מי יודע עם, סו"ס, אין שומעים אותם.
