By the grace of Hashem,

To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Sh. Ch. (note 1: Rav Shlomo Chaim Kasselman, of Paris, who subsequently became the spiritual guide of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch of Lod. See letter no. 7816),

I greet you and bless you,

I am following up on my letter of 9 Tammuz* (note 2: It refers to letter no. 373, which is dated on this same day). In the meantime, I received yours, in which you tell me that you have no knowledge of stories and talks (note 3: See, on this subject, letters no. 7827 and 7829). That is why you do not communicate them to me. If this is true, it is even more surprising than if you knew of them but did not write them down. Nevertheless, what can I do? The source of a Jew is the Essence of Hashem. He therefore possesses, in the fullest sense, free will, as stated in the Likkutei Torah*, in the third chapter of the commentary on the discourse entitled: "He lifted up." I am enclosing letters that were communicated to me yesterday. Wishing you all the best,

בנתיים נתקבל מכתבו שאינו יודע מסיפורי ושיחות הק' וכו' ולכן אינו מודיעם! והנה א"כ הוא הרי התמי' עוד גדולה יותר, משאם יודע ואינו כותב. אבל מה אעשה ואיש הישראלי להיותו מושרש בעצומ"ה הוא בעל בחירה באמת וכמ"ש בלקו"ת, בי' והניף פ"ג.
