Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7848 — Tzedakah

By the grace of Hashem,

I duly received your letter from the eve of the holy Shabbos*. The things you write there are frightful (note 2: The recipient of this letter expressed his desire to attach himself to the Rebbe and to see him assume the succession of his father-in-law). I have already answered someone (note 3: See, on this subject, letter no. 576) that there is in this a means of endangering a life (note 4: In this case, that of the Rebbe) and one knows all the explanations that have been given on this subject. But, despite all of this, perhaps... And they write, and write some more. Without a doubt, they have a good intention, but...

I mentioned all these names near the tomb and, without making a vow of it, I will do the same tomorrow, as a good friend. This is what I have been doing for several years already, upon entering the sanctuary of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. And on this matter, you will see the Sefer Chassidim*, chapter 1129, which says: "Adorned in fine garments, he recited the Kiddush* on behalf of all" (note 5: The Rebbe is always present, beyond physical existence. See, on this subject, the Likkutei Sichos*, volume 2, at page 511).

... קבלתי מכתבו מועש"ק. ודבריו מבהילים. וכבר עניתי לא' שזהו ענין ד"נ, וידוע כמה חקו"ד צריך בד"נ. וכולי האי ואולי כו'. והם כותבים ושונים כו'. ובל"ס כוונתם רצוי', אבל כו'.

ומה שהזכרתי את כולם בהיותי על הציון, ובל"נ, אעשה כן גם מחר - הוא אלס גוטע פריינד, ונהגתי כן זה כמה שנים בהכנסי להיכל כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ. וראה ס"ח סי' תתשכט: ופוטר את הרבים בקידוש בבגדים חמודות שהי' לובש.
