To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Sh. (note 1: Rav Shalom Posner. See, regarding him, letter no. 7767),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter from Thursday of last week. Likewise, your son, a student of the Yeshivah*, the Rav, transmitted to me what you told him on Friday, the eve of the holy Shabbos*. You write to me that I cannot imagine what you endure on account of your associate in your city. Indeed, I will not claim that my bitterness is as great as yours. Nevertheless, I can perfectly imagine what you are experiencing. Yet, what good does it do to distress yourself ever increasingly, as well as your wife? Will you arrange anything in this way?

Indeed, if this man could pay but did not wish to, one might think that your distress and your threats would have led him to settle at least a part of his debt. But he is insolvent and so what good is all of this, except to cause your bitterness and your suffering? Furthermore, he has no means of earning a livelihood at the present time and he cannot even cover his own daily expenses. Who knows what the future will hold? One should discuss all of this, with the appropriate words, in a favorable state of mind and at a favorable moment, with your associate who is in your city. For now, there is nothing else that can be done (note 2: See, regarding all of this, letter no. 7850).

I am enclosing a receipt for Mr. Gold. If you think that in addition to this, it would be good to send him a receipt from the committee for the Maamad* (note 3: See, on this subject, letters no. 7809, 7812, 7814, 7830, and 7836), you will let me know. With my blessing and in the hope of receiving good news from you as well,

שלום וברכה!

מכתבו מיום ה' בשבוע העבר קבלתי, כן מסר לי בנו התמים הרב שי' מה שדבר עמו ביום ועש"ק העבר.

ואף שכותב שאיני יכול לשער מה סובלים מהשותף שבמחנו, הנה פשיטא שלא אומר שהעגמ"נ שלי הוא כמו העגמ"נ שלו, אבל השערה יש לי במה שעובר עליהם, ובכל זה הנה מה תועלת ישנו במה שיתרגש ויוסיף ויתרגש הוא וזוגתו תי', מה יתוקן ע"י זה?

ובשלמא אם הי'... יכול ואינו רוצה, הי' מקום לומר שע"י התרגשות ואיומים וכיו"ב יסלק חובו במקצת עכ"פ, אבל מכיון שהוא אינו יכול, מה בצע בכל הנ"ל מלבד העגמ"נ ויסורים. ונוסף על כל זה, הרי... אין לו עתה כל פרנסה אף על הוצאה היום יומית, ומה שיהי' במשך הזמן הנה מי יודע.

וכדברים האלה צריכים היו להסביר באותיות המתאימות ובשטימונג וזמן המתאים גם להשותף שבמחנו.

ולכאורה, לע"ע אין מה לעשות עוד בזה.
