To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of

good conduct, who devotes himself to communal needs, Rav L. Rabinovitch (note 1: Rav Levi Yitzchak Rabinovitch. See, regarding him, letters no. 1289 and 1298),

I greet you and bless you,

I was gratified by your visit when you were in New York and I rejoiced at the opportunity to exchange with you. I hope that you returned home safely. No doubt you still remember the subject of our discussion and, within a short time, you will begin to put into practice what we discussed, which means that a Yeshivah* will be founded in your country, for those who do not have the possibility or the desire to exile themselves to a place of Torah* (note 2: In countries where major Yeshivos* exist). Furthermore, you will immediately undertake an action and a zealous campaign with the aim of strengthening and developing good education, in general, in your country.

Every Jewish man and every Jewish woman receives a share of responsibility in this good education. You yourself, as Chief Rabbi of your country, are surely aware of the broad opportunities that are available to you in this matter. If it were not said that one urges eagerness precisely upon those who possess this quality naturally, I would have thought it unnecessary to emphasize all of this to you. Nevertheless, eagerness befits such an action. No doubt you will ensure that time is not squandered. You will therefore put into practice, as quickly as possible, the plan of action upon which we agreed. I express the wish that Hashem assist you, so that you may know great success, material and spiritual.

I am enclosing a new booklet of Chassidus*, which has just appeared, on the occasion of 12 and 13 Tammuz* 5710 (note 3: Festival of the liberation of the Previous Rebbe from Soviet prisons). No doubt it will arouse your great interest. May Hashem very soon transform these days of misfortune (note 4: Between the fasts of 17 Tammuz* and 9 Av*, commemorating the destruction of the Temple) into consolation, by the merit of the Torah* and its luminary (note 5: Its profound teaching, revealed by Chassidus*). נעם לי ביקורו בהיותו בניו-יארק, ושמחתי בהזדמנות לשוחח אתו. והנני מקוה כי הגיע לביתו לשלום.

נושא שיחתנו ודאי עדיין בזכרונו. ובטח לא יארך הזמן וכת"ר יתחיל להוציא לפועל את אשר דברנו - יסוד ישיבה במדינתו בעד אלה אשר אין ביכלתם או ברצונם לגלות למקום תורה, וגם יגש תיכף להתחיל בתעמולה ופעולה נמרצה להחזקת והרחבת חינוך הכשר בכלל במדינתו.

כל איש ואישה בישראל יש להם חלק באחריות החינוך הכשר, וכת"ר, בתור הרב הראשי במדינתו, בטח מכיר בגודל האפשריות המוטלת עליו בזה. ולולא אשר אין מזרזין אלא למזורזין הייתי אומר כי למותר לזרז לדכוותי', ברם הזריזות יפה לפעולה כזאת, ובטח יחוס על הזמן שלא ילך לאיבוד ויגש להוציא לפועל תכנית העבודה שדברנו עלי' בהקדם. והנני מאחל לו סייעתא דשמיא בהצלחה מרובה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
