To the Rav, distinguished and pleasant Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Sh. Z. (note 1: Rav Shneur Zalman Duchman. See, regarding him, letters no. 6530, 7866, and 7883),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letters of 18 Tammuz* and 21 Menachem Av*, with what they contained. Some time ago, the publications you requested were sent to you by separate package. No doubt you will confirm having received them. Some time ago, I also received the twentieth letter of your memoirs. Enclosed with these letters were the twenty-first and twenty-second. You will surely continue to write them, in accordance with the will of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, may he rest in peace. Likewise, I asked you to deduct the expenses of the Beis Rivkah* from a certain fund. You will therefore specify to me which one it is, so that we may give the equivalent here. Furthermore, you also mention your move. In my view, it would be good for you to settle in the same country as your son-in-law (note 2: Rav Eliyahu Akiva Lipsker) and the members of his family. Indeed, "Hashem prepares the steps of man."

No doubt you continue to give classes and to lead Chassidic* gatherings, especially during the month in which "I am to my Beloved and my Beloved is to me" (note 3: A verse whose initial letters form the name Elul*). It is then fitting to be: "each man with his friend and gifts to the poor." You do not tell me anything about your state of health and no doubt you are therefore well. Nevertheless, I thank you for indicating it to me clearly. With my blessing, to be inscribed and sealed for a good year, you yourself, the members of your family, and all those who accompany you,

מכתביו מח"י תמוז ומכ"א מנ"א עם המוסג"ב נתקבלו. וזה מכבר נשלחו לו הנדפסים אשר ביקש, בחבילה בפ"ע - ובטח יאשר קבלתם - כן נתקבל מכתב כ"ף דזכרונות שלו מכבר, ובהנ"ל - מכתב כ"א כ"ב. ובטח ימשיך רשימותיו, וכרצון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ. כן כתבתי לו שיקח להוצאות בית רבקה ויודיע מאיזה קופה לקח ויכניסו תמורתם. ומה שכותב בענין ההעתקה - הנה, לפי דעתי, נכון הדבר שיעתיקו למדינה שיעתיק חתנו וב"ב שי', ומהוי' מצעדי גבר כוננו.

בודאי ממשיך גם עתה בלימוד השיעורים ברבים ועריכת ההתועדות. ובפרט בחדש דא'ני ל'דודי ו'דודי ל'י, שצריך להיות א'יש ל'רעהו ו'מתנות ל'אביונים.

כיון שאינו מזכיר ע"ד בריאותו - בודאי שלום לו, ובכ"ז ת"ח אם יכתוב זה בפירוש.
