To the great Rav, distinguished and pleasant Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Ephraim Eliezer HaCohen (note 1: Rav E. E. Yalles, of Philadelphia. See, regarding him, letters no. 7455 and 8062),

I greet you and bless you,

I read, with pleasure, your letter of 18 Elul* 5710, which contains anecdotes from the life of the righteous, holy and pure men. Indeed, it is known that the quality of the book of Bereishis*, preceding that of Shemos*, lies in the fact that it relates many stories of the righteous. It has, for this reason, been called the "book of the righteous" and this point is addressed in the Kovetz Michtavim*, third collection, of my father-in-law, the Rebbe (note 2: See the Igros Kodesh* of the Rebbe Rayatz*, volume 6, letter no. 1612, at page 77), may he rest in peace, from page 10. Your letter indicates that you have already returned to your city. I am therefore sending the present letter directly there.

I am enclosing the booklet that was published for this Rosh Hashanah*, together with copies of letters addressed to all that concern you. Knowing the manner in which you regard all of this, I hope that these will interest you. This will be my reward. I conclude by wishing you to be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually, you yourself, the members of your family, and your students in the practice of the Torah*, the Mitzvos*, and the Chassidic* ways. I bless you, I receive your blessing, and I await the good,

בעונג קראתי מכתבו מח"י אלול השי"ת הכולל בתוכו זכרונות מחיי צדיקים קדושים וטהורים, וכידוע במעלת ספר בראשית הקודם לספר שמות וכו' כי הוא מלא סיפורי צדיקים, ועל שמו נקרא ספר הישר (ומדובר בזה בקובץ מכתבים ג' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ ע' יו"ד ואילך).

כנראה במכתבו כבר נמצא במחנו הט' ולכן הנני שולח מכתב זה ישר לעירו.

מוסגר פה הקונטרס לראש השנה הבע"ל עם העתקת מכתבים כלליים השייכים אליו, אשר בידעי יחס כת"ר תקותי שימצא ענין בהם, והי' זה שכרי.
