Between Rosh Hashanah* and Yom Kippur* 5710,

I thank you very much for the Chassidic* discourses and talks that you sent me. Indeed, some of them were lacking to me. If you find others, you will kindly send them to me. I thank you very much in advance.

You raise a question about the talk of Simchas Torah* 5686 (note 2: 1925, of the Rebbe Rayatz*, in the Sefer HaSichos* 5680-5687, at page 96), which mentions the decree regarding the hats (note 3: The Russian authorities decreed that the Jews must wear peaked caps. The Alter Rebbe* was distressed by this and remarked that they were thereby prevented from observing the sky and divine Providence. The Rebbe of Berditchev responded that the Jews would overcome this trial and would know to turn the visor toward the back of the neck to continue observing the sky) and makes mention of the Rebbe of Berditchev, "scholar and Chassid*," according to the expression used by the Likkutei Torah*, Shir HaShirim*, at page 18c. I have already been made aware of such a remark, but it was formulated regarding Rabbi Hillel of Paritch. It therefore seems that there was a confusion on the part of the scribe, which allows one to understand the specification that he delivered words before his students. Indeed, it is not said that Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev had a Yeshivah* (note 4: Rabbi Hillel of Paritch, on the other hand, had one). Furthermore, you make reference to the first fruits and you will consult, on this subject, the Zohar*, volume 3, at page 253a and the Mikdash Melech*, at the same reference, as well as the Chassidic* discourse of 5654 (note 5: 1894, of the Rebbe Rashab*), entitled: "On the day of the first fruits" (note 6: This first passage was written to Rav Michael Yehudah Aryeh Leib Cohen. See, regarding him, letters no. 7478 and 8014).

You ask me to invoke divine mercy on your behalf. No doubt you will confirm to me that you have prepared pure and broad receptacles for this, by submitting to the Torah*, by working on your own personality, and by coming to the aid of others (note 7: This second passage was written to Rav Aharon Yosef Belinitski).

Regarding your son Sh. D. (note 8: Rav Shmuel David Gurkov), you ask me whether he should come here to join the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*. You will consult the booklet of Shemini Atzeres*, at page 90 (note 9: In the Sefer HaMaamarim* 5711), according to which the Chassidim* of London must reveal the light of Lubavitch in that city and it must therefore be possible to do so. It would be good to form groups of young men for the study of Chassidus* and your son will be one of the leaders. Then, "Hashem makes the eyes of all shine." When this group is formed, one can then ask whether your son should leave the place. מה שהוקשה לו בשיחת שמח"ת תרפ"ו בגזירת הכובעים והרה"ק "הגאון החסיד" (כך נזכר בלקו"ת שה"ש יח, ג) מבארדיטשוב, שאין השנים מתאימות - הנה שמעתי מעין זה, אבל על ר"ה מפאריטש (וכנראה טעה המניח). ואז מובן ג"כ מש"כ בהר"ד שאמר לתלמידיו, כי לא שמענו שהיתה ישיבה אצל הרלי"צ מבראד'.

ומש"כ במכתבו בענין בכורים - יעויין בזה זח"ג רנג, א ובמק"מ שם. ד"ה וביום הבכורים רנ"ד.

ואזי מאיר עיני כולם הוי'. וכאשר תהי' הקבוצה מבוססה - אז יש לדון בהשאלה אם יסע בנו שי' משם. - ות"ח על בשו"ט בזה.
