By the grace of Hashem,

At the conclusion of Shabbos*, 17 (note 1: The Rebbe writes Tov, good, a word whose numerical value is seventeen) Kislev* 5711,

To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Sh. Z. (note 2: Rav Shneur Zalman Duchman. See, regarding him, letter no. 7859),

Here is (note 3: This paragraph was added, for Rav Duchman, to letter no. 830) the request emanating from a Chassid* (note 4: The Rebbe defines himself as such, still refusing to officially succeed his father-in-law): that the Name of Hashem not be profaned through you! Is this the way one will bring Moshiach*? Endeavor to disseminate the wellsprings of Chassidus* outward (note 5: Rather than trying to convince the Rebbe), which includes everything.
