By the grace of Hashem,

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter of Thursday of Parshas* Shoftim, in which you describe to me the state of health of this woman and you ask me my opinion regarding what the doctor has prescribed for her. If two specialist doctors do indeed recommend this surgical intervention, she shall undergo it, in my view, and may Hashem grant that it be successful.

As for the second point, the suggestion made to her to operate on the uterus, one must ask the doctor what he means by that. Is it a total removal, or only the removal of the tumor? If the first supposition is correct, especially since the doctors in the United States perform it very readily, she will consult two other doctors. If the three are of the opinion that a total removal is necessary, she will do so. May Hashem inspire the right decision in the hearts of these doctors, who will thus establish the truth and the good. Hashem will send His Word and He will heal her, through the intermediary of such a doctor and such a treatment.

As for the man to whom you allude, he will also follow the advice of the doctors. Above all, he will endeavor to eat, to drink, to rest, to be a soldier of Hashem, in the appropriate manner, that is to say, the manner defined by the Rambam*, at the beginning of chapter 4 of his Laws of Kings: "Having a body in good health and whole is among the ways of Hashem."

You have surely received, in its time, my letter that was addressed to all the students, on the occasion of the beginning of the school year. I hope to receive from you good news, as is fitting, on the occasion of this new school year. You will tell me, above all, that the number of students, boys and girls, has increased, in conformity with the ruling of the Torah* according to which one must ascend in the domain of holiness. Wishing you to be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year,

N.B.: Regarding this man, I am surprised that all of this is dragging on. Perhaps it would be good to propose to him that he not wait until everything is already completed and the machines are ready. Let him give right away, for this publication, what he initially intended to devote to it. Indeed, when one shows Hashem that one adopts a behavior imbued with largesse, Hashem Himself extends a generous hand.

קבלתי מכתבו מה' שופטים, שבו מתאר מצב בריאות.. תחי' ושואל חוו"ד בנוגע למה שאמר לה הרופא:

הנה לפ"ד, בנוגע של הנתוח למרידין, אם זהו דעת שני רופאים מומחים במקצוע זה, תעשה זאת, ויתן השי"ת שיה'י בהצלחה.

ובנוגע לענין השני שמציע לה לעשות נתוח על האם, הנה בדבר זה צריכים לברר אצל הרופא מהו כוונתו בזה, אם הוא רוצה לעשות קלין אפ לגמרי, או שרק לחתוך את הטומאר, ואם הוא באופן הראשון אשר בד"כ הרופאים דארצוה"ב להוטים אח"ז, אזי ישאל ג"כ דעת עוד שני רופאים ורק אם שלשתם יחד יסכימו לעשות קלין אפ, יעשו כזה. והשי"ת יתן בלב הרופאים דיעה הישרה לכווין אל האמת והטוב, וה' ישלח דברו וירפאה ע"י רופא פלוני וסם פלוני.

במ"ש אודות... שי' ימלא כהוראת הרופאים, והעיקר בעניני אכילה ושתי' ומנוחה, און ער זאל זיין א סאלדאט להשי"ת כמו שצ"ל, וכמ"ש הרמב"ם הלכות דיעות רפ"ד: היות הגוף בריא ושלם מדרכי השם הוא.

מכתבי הכללי להתלמידים להתחלת זמן הלימודים, בטח הגיע אליו במועדו, ואקוה להתבשר ממנו טובות להתחלת הלימוד כדבעי למהוי, ובעיקר מהגדלת מספר התלמידים והתלמידות, וכפסק התורה מעלין בקדש.
