To the distinguished Chassid*, who fears Hashem,
Rav Mendel Glatt,

Greetings and blessings,

I was pleased to have news of you through our friend, the great Rav, distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem, a man full of zeal, of many accomplishments, Rav Yosef HaLevi Weinberg.

It is said that all Jews are guarantors one for the other, arevim*. However, this term also indicates that one is sweet to the other, that they are interdependent, share a common responsibility. Thus, the love of one for the other makes them interdependent, so that each is responsible for the others. In the material domain, this is the principle of insurance, and how much more is it so spiritually.

My father-in-law the Rebbe emphasized that it falls upon each person the duty to give moral tzedakah*, with generosity, to the people with whom one is in contact, or else to those who belong to the same community but are spiritually in need. One must therefore organize public classes and draw them closer to Torah and mitzvot.

These are wide vessels, allowing one to obtain all blessings, material and spiritual. And one can also deduce from this the importance of the tzedakah that a Jew must give to his neshamah elokis*, by fixing a time to study the revealed part of Torah (nigleh*) and its inner teaching, that is to say, Chassidut*.

I hope to have good news about what you will have accomplished in this domain. I thank you for kindly communicating it to me.

ידוע פירוש המא' כל ישראל ערבים זה בזה, שהמלה ערבים משמע א) מתיקות, ב) תערובת, ג) אחריות, היינו שמשום אהבת ישראל כל ישראל מעורבים זה בזה ואחראיים כל אחד בעד חברו. אשר כל זה נמצא גם בגשמיות במסחר האינשורענס, ומכש"כ ברוחניות.

כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ הדגיש האחריות הגדולה המוטלת על כל איש מישראל לתת צדקה רוחנית ברוח נדיבה להעניים בדעת אשר בסביבתם וקהלתם, לזכות את הרבים בשיעורי לימוד ברבים ולהשפיע עליהם לקרבם לתורה ולמצוות, אשר כל זה הם כלים רחבים לקבלת ברכות כל טוב בגשמיות וברוחניות. ויש ללמוד מזה גם על גודל הצדקה שחייב כל איש מישראל לגמול לנפשו האלקית בקביעת עתים לתורה, תורת הנגלה ופנימיות התורה הוא לימוד הדא"ח.

והנני מקוה לשמוע בשורות טובות ממנו בעבודתו בזה, ות"ח על הודעתו מזה.
