To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Yaakov (note 1: Rav Y. Peles. See, regarding him, letters no. 6696 and 7117),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter and your request for blessing. On the occasion of the new year, which approaches, for us and for all of Israel, for good and for blessing, I send you my wishes, for yourself and also for the members of your family, my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, both materially and spiritually. Regarding the statement of our Sages (note 2: Whose reference the recipient of this letter was requesting) according to which: "the strength of the body is the weakness of the soul (note 3: Two versions exist of this word soul, Neshamah* and Nefesh*)," you will consult the Zohar*, volume 1, pages 180b and 140b. The version retaining, in this text, the word Nefesh* is the more precise. Indeed, the condition of the body affects first and foremost the part of the soul that is closest to it (note 4: Nefesh* is the part of the soul that is the source of vegetative life, whereas Neshamah* is the source of the intellectual manifestations of the personality), as is known.
