To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Raphael Nachman (note 1: Rav R. N. Kahn. See, regarding him, letter no. 7878) HaCohen,

I greet you and bless you,

A) I received, with pleasure, your letters of the second and seventh lights of Chanukah*. You tell me that you have rented a dwelling near the residence of your daughters and facing the Yeshivah*. May Hashem grant that you know success, that you reside there in tranquility, tranquility of mind and tranquility of body. Thus, you will fulfill your sacred mission in the appropriate manner, without being disturbed by secondary matters, in good health, as well as your wife and the members of your family.

I thank you very much for your precious gift, the note of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, as well as for what you write me regarding the history of this note (note 2: See, on this subject, the Shmuos VeSippurim of Rav Kahn, volume 1, page 190). Furthermore, you enclose excerpts of letters of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us.

B) Regarding these people, no doubt you will not cease speaking to them, again and again. Above all, you will express yourself calmly and you will put into practice the statement according to which: "the words of the Sages are heard in serenity." May Hashem grant that you give me good news regarding all of this, just as you announce good news to me, in your letter, that of the Chassidic* gathering of the "festival of festivals," 19 Kislev*. In this regard, I enclose a copy of the letter that I addressed to all, on this subject.

You minimize the importance of having put on Tefillin* by saying that this occurred only three times (note 3: That such a person put them on only three times). You will however consult chapter 25 of the Tanya*, affirming that, on High, this (note 4: The fulfillment of the Mitzvah*) is immutable, for eternity. I conclude by sending you my blessing of Mazal Tov* for the entry of your grandson Shneur Zalman into the covenant of our father Avraham (note 5: The circumcision). May his father, his mother, his grandparents have the merit of deriving from him and from the other children a Jewish and Chassidic* satisfaction, both material and spiritual,

בנועם קבלתי מכתביו מנר ב' דחנוכה ונר ז' דחנוכה, בו מודיע אשר שכר דירה בקירוב למקום דירת בנותיו שיחיו ומול הישיבה, ויה"ר שיהי' בהצלחה וידורו בדירתם במנוחה, מנוחת הנפש ומנוחת הגוף, ויתעסק בעבודתו עבודת הקדש כדבעי, מבלי בלבולים מענינים צדדיים, ובבריאות הנכונה שלו ושל זוגתו וכל ב"ב שיחיו.

ת"ח ת"ח על תשורתו היקרה, והיא הפתקא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, וכן על כתבו פרשת הדברים בסדר השתל' של הפתקא, וכן על צרפו ג"כ קטעים ממכתבי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

ב) בנוגע ל... הנה טבח לא ייעף ולא ייגע מלדבר עמהם עוד הפעם ועוה"פ. והעיקר שיהיו דברים שבנחת, ויקויים יעוד הכתוב דברי חכמים (כשהם) בנחת נשמעים, ויה"ר שיבשר בשו"ט בכל הנ"ל, כמו שמבשר במכתבו בשו"ט מאופן התועדות חג החגים י"ט כסלו, ובהתאם לזה מוסג"פ, העתק מכתבי הכללי בענין זה.

מה שמקטין בענין הנחת התפלין שהי' רק ג"פ - יעוין תניא פכ"ה שלמע' הוא נצחי, לעולם ועד.

החותם בברכת מזל טוב לכניסתו של נכדו שניאור זלמן שי' לבריתו של אאע"ה, ויזכו אביו ואמו וכן אבותיו זקניו שיחיו לראות ממנו ומשאר יו"ח שיחיו אידישן נחת חסידישן נחת בגו"ר,
