To my close relative, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Shneur Zalman HaLevi (note 2: Rav S. Z. Butman, who is not a Levi, this term having been added here by the Rebbe to prevent identification of the recipient. See, regarding him, letter no. 7812),

I greet you and bless you,

I have just received your two letters of 15 and 19 Cheshvan*, in which you share with me your various reflections, regarding settling in the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, or in Canada, each situation presenting advantages and disadvantages.

Your letters seem to indicate that, in your view as well, all of this is not yet clear. You do not know whether you and yours will be able to leave the place in which you currently find yourselves (note 3: Paris) to go to the Holy Land or to Canada. In my view, you must therefore assemble three people (note 4: See, on this subject, letters no. 6188 and 6643), from among your friends, among the elder Chassidim* of the place where you currently reside. You will present the situation to them as it is known to you at this time and Hashem will suggest the right idea to them, which they will communicate to you. This will be the good for you and for the members of your family, both materially and spiritually. You will do what they tell you and you will know success. With my blessing for an easy and proper settling, both in a concrete manner and in the moral dimension,

זה עתה נתקבלו שני מכתביו מט"ו וי"ט חשון וכותב ע"ד מחשבותיו השונות בענין הסתדרותו, אם באה"ק ת"ו או בקנדה, אשר כמה קישויים ומעלות בזה על זה.

הנה כנראה ממכתביו, גם בעיניו עדיין אין הענין ברור, בענין היכולת שיש בידו וכן עד ב"ב שיחיו בדבר העתקה ממקומם עתה לאה"ק ת"ו או לקנדה, ולכן דעתי שיושיב שם שלשה אנשים מידידיו מזקני אנ"ש אשר במקומו עתה, ויציע לפניהם את כל הענין כפי שיהי' ידוע לו ביום ההוא, והשי"ת יתן להם את הרעיון הנכון איך לייעצו, לטוב לפניו ולפני ב"ב שיחיו בגשמיות וברוחניות, וכהוראתם יעשה ויהי' להצלחה.
