I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter of 12 Kislev*, as well as the one that preceded it, with the request for blessing that it contained. I read it, during the luminous day of our deliverance and the freedom of our souls, 19 Kislev*, near the holy tomb of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. Without a doubt, he will invoke great mercy for all those who requested this blessing, in all their needs. I thank you very much for the news you give me of the state of health of the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav S. Z. Bespalov. For a long time, I have had no news from him. Your letter has somewhat reassured me. May Hashem grant that you announce good news to me, always and every day.

You will surely endeavor to find an apartment, in a good neighborhood, in the appropriate manner, and Hashem will grant you success. You also tell me that, this Sunday, 26 Kislev*, your son will be three years old. May Hashem grant that you educate him, together with your wife, to the Torah*, to the nuptial canopy, and to good deeds, in abundance and in tranquility, materially and spiritually. May Hashem grant that the pregnancy of your wife proceed well, be easy, and that she give birth easily. With my blessing and awaiting your good news,

N.B.: I am not aware of particular customs for the day of the haircut (note 3: The first haircut, at the age of three). I enclose an excerpt from a letter of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, on this subject:

"The haircut occupies an important place among Jewish customs. Its essential purpose is to accustom the child to keeping the Peyos* of the head. From the day when his hair is cut and the Peyos* are preserved, one endeavors to have him wear a Tallis Katan*, to have him recite the morning blessings, the blessing after the meal, and the Shema Yisrael* of bedtime."

May Hashem be with you to educate him to the Torah*, to the nuptial canopy, and to good deeds, in material opulence and peace of mind, materially and spiritually.

נתקבל מכתבו מי"ב כסלו וכן מכבתו הקודם עם הפ"נ, אשר קראתים ביום הבהיר, הוא יום חג גאולתינו ופדות נפשנו י"ט כסלו, על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ובודאי יעורר ר"ר על כאו"א מאלו ששלחו הפ"נ - להמצטרך להם.

... ת"ח ת"ח על הודעתו אודות בריאות הרה"ח הוו"ח אי"א נו"נ וכו' מוהרש"ז שי' בעזפאלאוו, אשר זה זמן רב שלא קבלתי ממנו כל ידיעה, ובמכתו זה הרגיעני במקצת עכ"פ, כן יזכהו השי"ת להודיעני טובות תכה"י.

בנוגע לחיפוש דירה בשכונה טובה ומתאמת, הרי בטח יעשה בזה במרץ המתאים.

והשי"ת יצליחו.

ובמה שמודיע שביום א' כ"ו כסלו הבע"ל, יתמלאו לבנם... שי' שלש שנים, הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שיגדלו ביחד עם זוגתו שיחיו לתורה לחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבה ומנוחה בגשמיות וברוחניות. והשי"ת ימלא הריונה של זוגתו תחי' כשורה ובנקל ותלד זחו"ק כשורה ובנקל.

בברכה - המחכה לבשו"ט.

מ. שניאורסאהןנ.ב. מנהגים מיוחדים ליום הגזיזה, לא שמעתי. ומועתק פה קטע ממכתב כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בנוגע לזה:

... ובדבר גזיזת השערות- אפשערענעס - הוא דבר גדול במנהגי ישראל, ועיקרו הוא בהחינוך דהשארת פיאות הראש. ומיום הגזיזה והנחת הפיאות של הראש נהגו להדר להרגיל את התינוק בענין נשיאת ט"ק וברכות השחר וברכות המזון וק"ש שעל המטה.

והשי"ת יהי' בעזרם שיגדלוהו לתורה לחופה ומעש"ט מתוך פרנסה בהרחבה ובמנוחת הדעת בגשמיות וברוחניות.
