himself to communal needs, Rav Shalom (note 1: Rav Shalom Posner, of Pittsburgh. See, regarding him, letter no. 7767),

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letters of 10 and 13 Teves*:

A) I thank you for this good news, the improvement of the state of health of Mr. Yisrael Henkin. I hope that upon receipt of this letter he will be doing even better and that you will announce the good news to me. Likewise, if you know what opinions have been formulated by the doctors and what treatments have been proposed, you will let me know.

B) You are considering strengthening the quality of the Yeshivah* Achei Temimim* of Pittsburgh (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 7973), so that it be suitable also for the students Feinginson and Garber, who have just arrived from France. Now, it seems to me that between the current students and those coming from France, there are still a few intermediate classes missing. It is therefore difficult to envision a continuation. Above all, I do not see how you will be able to find spiritual guides, teaching Chassidus*, and Yeshivah* deans who would be suitable for the students from France, especially since they are only a few. If you have hope of finding spiritual guides and deans, even in the long term, perhaps one should indeed ask whether this is feasible, in terms of costs as well as people. If that is indeed the case, it is not excluded that next year, one should think about it. In the meantime, the graduating class will grow. On the other hand, it does not seem appropriate to introduce it in the middle of the school year.

C) I would like to know in detail, to the extent that you possess this information, what is the material situation of the person to whom you allude. With my blessing,

במענה על מכתביו מיו"ד וי"ג טבת:

א) ת"ח על הבשו"ט מהטבת בריאות מר ישראל שי' הענקין ותקותי שלעת קבלת מכתבי זה מצבו עוד השתפר, ויודיע בשו"ט בזה. כן אם יודע חוו"ד הרופאים ואופני הרפואה - בטח יודיע.

ב) במ"ש ע"ד הסברא להשתדל להגדיל איכות ישיבת א"ת בפיטסבורג בכדי שיתאים גם בשביל התלמידים פייגינסאן וגארבער שיחיו שבאו עתה מצרפת. הנה כמדומה, שבין הת' דעתה והת' שבאו מצרפת עדיין חסרים איזה כתות בינתים, ולכן קשה הדבר שיהי' בהמשך אחד. ובעיקר איני רואה שיוכל למצוא משפיעים בחסידות וראשי ישיבה המתאימים להתלמידים דצרפת, ובפרט שאינם אלא אחדים. אם יש אצלו תקוה (א אויסקוק) שאפשר להשיג משפיעים ור"י ע"ד הנ"ל, עכ"פ במשך הזמן, אולי כדאי הי' להתענין אם דבר אפשרי הוא מצד ההוצאות שבדבר והן מצד האישים, ואז לא מופרך הדבר שלשנה הבע"ל יהי' מקום לחשוב עד"ז, כיון שלזמן ההוא הרי גם תגדל הכתה המסיימת שבהישיבה עתה, אבל להתחיל בזה באמצע הזמן, לכאורה, אין כדאי.

ג) אתענין לדעת בפרטיות, עד כמה שידוע לו, מצבם הגשמי דמר..
