Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7944 — Shidduchim

By the grace of Hashem,

9 Shevat* 5713,

I greet you and bless you,

I have just received your letter of 27 Teves* and I was happy to learn that the marriage of that person is progressing. You also speak to me, in your letter, of the participation of the Chassidim* and I am satisfied with it. Indeed, when it comes to the practice of Mitzvos*, the one who initiates it influences the person receiving what he transmits to him, morally or physically, and the latter brings to the former more than he receives from him.

Furthermore, you have surely read the memoirs of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, showing how young people were accustomed to performing good deeds, one toward the other, so that the one who gives fulfills the Mitzvah* of benevolence and the one who receives, the Mitzvah* of repaying a debt. How much more is this the case when it concerns a marriage. One knows, indeed, the importance that our Sages accord to each detail that pertains to it. Consequently, I too take the liberty of participating in the expenses of this marriage, with the prepaid vouchers that you will find enclosed. With my blessing of Mazal Tov*,

זה עתה קבלתי מכתבו מכ"ז טבת, ושמחתי לקרות בו שמתקדם דבר הנישואין של...

נהניתי ממ"ש במכתבו ע"ד השתתפות מאנ"ש שי', וכידוע שכשעושים מצות הרי גם זה שגרם לאותה מצוה, ובפרט בענינים דמשפיע ומקבל - הן ברוחניות והן בגשמיות - הרי המקבל עושה יותר עם הנותן ממה שעושה הנותן עם המקבל.

ובטח קרא ג"כ בס' הזכרונות מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, איך שנערים התרגלו לתת גמ"ח אחד לרעהו כדי לזכות הנותן במצוה דגמ"ח והמקבל במצוה דפרעון חוב. ובפרט בענין דנישואין, שידוע עד כמה שהפליגו חז"ל בכל הפרטים הקשורים בזה.

ובהמשך לזה, ארשה לעצמי גם אני, להשתתף בהוצאות הנישואין ע"י הסקריפ המצו"פ...
