To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and

devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Saadia (note 1: Rav S. Liberov, of Morocco. See, regarding him, letter no. 7897),

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter of 7 Nissan*, as well as the one that followed it. You ask me in which place you should carry out your work. According to what the great Rav and Chassid*, Rav B. E. G. (note 2: Rav Binyamin Eliyahu Gorodetski, director of the refugee aid bureau, of Paris), told me, you all gathered together when he was in Morocco. It was discussed that you should carry out your work in one of the large cities of the country, after Meknes and Casablanca. You thought of Midelt, because our schools are already there and there is a very large population. In general, this seems positive to me.

We have only four or five people in Morocco and there is material for a very broad action, which can be carried out on site, in the domain of education and therefore of the dissemination of Chassidus*, its customs and its practices. Consequently, it would be good for you to spread out, to the extent possible, in different cities. It is certain that within a short period of time, each of you will find, on site, people who will be able to help him, for the relatively secondary tasks. This involves, in this case, influencing not only the students and the children, but also the adults, the heads of families, and the Rabbanim*, in order to convince them to come to the aid not only of the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak schools but also of everything that concerns Chassidus*, in general. For this, it is more effective to teach the simplest ideas of Chassidus* and to tell stories about Chassidic* conduct.

I have good hope and I am convinced that, in the place where you settle, you will form a group of young people and heads of families, of course with the permission of the rabbis and the sages, from whom nothing must be taken away, nor must they be disrespected, for various reasons. Thus, little by little, you will find, within this group, people who will come to your aid, spiritual guides and educators. It is surely unnecessary to say more. It is presumably superfluous to remind you of the proximity of the day of Lag BaOmer*. Now, you know how important the Hilloula* (note 3: Of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai) is, among the Sephardim*. Moreover, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai is the author of the Zohar* and it is therefore certain that all will be satisfied with such a celebration. קבלתי מכתבו מז' ניסן וכן המכתב שאחריו. ובשאלתו באיזה מקום יתעסק בעבודתו, הנה כפי שסיפר הרה"ג והרה"ח הרבא"ג שי' היתה אסיפה משותפת מכולם ביחד כשהי' במרוקה, ואז הי' המדובר, שהוא יעבוד באחת העיירות היותר גדולות שאחרי מכנס וקסלבנקה, והיותר נראה הוא מידלעט, כיון ששם מוסדות שלנו היותר מרובים באוכלוסין. ובכלל - נראה הדבר. וכיון אשר משלנו במרוקה הם רק ד' ה' אנשים, ויש שם כר נרחב ביותר לעבודה באופן גדול בחינוך וא"כ, במילא, ג"כ בענין הפצת החסידות דרכי' והנהגותי', והרי כדאי שיתפזרו - עד כמה שאפשר - בעיירות שונות. ובטח, במשך זמן לא ארוך, ימצא כאו"כ מהם עוזרים על אתר לענינים הטפלים לפ"ע. וכיון שהכוונה היא להשפיע לא רק על התלמידים והקטנים אלא גם על הגדולים הבע"ב הרבנים וכו', ובכדי לקרב אותם לא רק לסייע במוסדות אהלי"י אלא גם לעניני חסידות בכלל, אשר זה פועלים יותר ע"י לימוד עניני חסידות הקלים, הסיפורים ע"ד דרכי החסידים וכו' - הנה תקותי ובטחוני, שבמקום שיתיישב הנה יארגן חוג של אברכים ובע"ב - כמובן ברשיון הרבנים והחכמים שלא יהי' בזה כל ענין של פחיתות כבודם ודמותם (מפני כו"כ טעמים) - ובמילא במשך הזמן יעמוד מחוג זה ג"כ עוזרים ומשפיעים ומחנכים.והאריכות אך למותר. ובטח למותר להעירם, אודות יום ל"ג בעומר הבע"ל. וכידוע עד כמה חשוב אצל הספרדים יום הילולא, ובפרט - של הרשב"י בעל הזהר. ובמילא בודאי חגיגתו תשביע רצון כל הנ"ל,.
