To the distinguished and pleasant man of quality, zealous

communal leader, who is vigilant and generous,

Mr. Yosef Marciano, president of the committee of the

city of Barguena, may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I was very satisfied and my heart rejoiced upon hearing of the positive accomplishment you have introduced in your city, in order to prevent the public desecration of Shabbos* and the holidays by the sons and daughters of Israel. Indeed, thanks to your intervention and that of your friends, the students of the French school no longer attend class on the holy Shabbos* and the holidays. Your reward and that of your friends are immense. You thus confer merit upon the public and it will protect you. In the future, you will surely continue to be vigilant, to strengthen the wall of the Torah*, of Judaism, and, in particular, of good education.

Without a doubt, you will not content yourself with the influence you exercise so that the sons and daughters of Israel distance themselves from evil. Furthermore, you will strive that they accomplish good, that is to say that they fill these days of rest and joy with content of holiness, of light, and of Torah*, for example through Mesibos Shabbos*. May Hashem grant success to your sacred mission for the good of all, in general, and of each individual, in particular. You will redouble your strength and your ardor, in accordance with the statement of our Sages according to which one experiences elevation in the domain of holiness. These communal activities will arouse, for you and for all your family, immense blessings, including in what concerns you, materially and spiritually. With my blessing,

שלום וברכה!

מאד שמחתי ויגל לבי לשמוע מהתיקון הגדול שעשו במחנם הט' למנוע חילול שבת וחילול יו"ט בפרהסיא של בני ובנות ישראל, אשר בהשתדלות מע"כ וחביריו פסקו תלמידי בית הספר הצרפתי מלילך לביה"ס ביום השבת קדש ובימי הרגל, ומה גדול שכרו ושכר חבריו שיחיו, שזכו להיות ממזכי הרבים אשר זכות הרבים תלוי בהם, ובטח גם להבא יעמדו על משרמתם לחזק חומת התורה והיהדות וחינוך הכשר בפרט.

ובטח לא יסתפקו בהשפעתם על בני ובנות ישראל להיות סור מרע, אלא ישתדלו ג"כ בחלק של ועשה טוב, היינו למלא ימי המנוחה והשמחה בתוכן של קדושה ואור תורה על ידי מסיבות שבת וכדומה.

והשי"ת יצליח עבודתם בקדש לטובת הכלל והפרט ויוסיפו כח ואומץ בעבודתם וכמרז"ל מעלין בקדש, ואשר עסקנות ציבורית זו תמשיך ותשפיע להם ולבני ביתם שיחיו שפע ברכות גם בענינים הפרטיים בגו"ר.
