Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7972 — Chinuch

Volume 21 · Letter 217

By the grace of Hashem,

19 Tammuz* 5713,

Brooklyn, New York,

To all those who cherish the Torah* and the Mitzvos*,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

The Beis Rivkah* schools for girls, under the auspices of the Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch*, have educated, in the course of the eleven years of their existence, hundreds of Jewish girls in the spirit of the Torah*, of the fear of Hashem, and of good sentiments. These girls are the satisfaction of their parents and the pride of the entire Jewish people. Through the merit of their holy founder, my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, and thanks to the tireless and devoted work of its directors, the Beis Rivkah* schools have acquired a prestigious and illustrious reputation in the domain of good education. They have formed a generation of Jewish girls and mothers, profoundly religious. And, to a large extent, upon this depends the continuity of the House of Israel, in the spirit of the Torah* and the Tradition.

However, these Beis Rivkah* schools currently find themselves in a critical financial situation. Their debts have accumulated in recent years and the expenses are now very significant, to the point of calling into question the very foundations of their existence.

Immediate help is indispensable.

Consequently, I address an appeal, from the depths of my heart, to all those who cherish the Torah* and the Mitzvos*, in particular to those who consider as precious and holy the institutions of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, so that they participate in the emergency campaign of the Beis Rivkah* schools, with an open hand and a warm heart, personally and by gathering one's friends and acquaintances with the aim of saving these schools and providing them the means to continue their work for good education. Through this merit, Hashem will grant His help, in all their needs, material and spiritual, to those who will bring their support and their participation. Greeting you and blessing you, materially and spiritually,

M. Schneerson,

* * *

By the grace of Hashem,

29 Tammuz* 5713,

Brooklyn,

To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes

himself to communal needs, Rav Shlomo (note 1: Rav Sh. Matusof, of Casablanca. See, regarding him, letter no. 7953),

I greet you and bless you,

A) I received, with pleasure, your letters of 10, 20, and 24 Tammuz*, with what was enclosed therein. I thank you, in particular, for the Lag BaOmer* booklet, which is well printed. You did very well to add a few lines specifying that this talk remains valid throughout the year, even if one may wonder whether this mention should not have appeared at the beginning of the booklet. No doubt, at the next opportunity, you will tell me how it was disseminated.

B) I do not know from which angle one must pursue the steps in order to obtain the authorization for Rav Pinson (note 2: Rav Nissan Pinson, who was to settle in Morocco. See, regarding him, letter no. 2018), in Morocco or in France. You will surely discuss this with the great Rav and Chassid*, Rav B. E. G. (note 3: Rav Binyamin Eliyahu Gorodetski, director of the refugee aid bureau, in Paris).

C) The letter of Rav S. Liberov (note 4: Rav Saadia Liberov. See letter no. 7957) seems to indicate that his area of activity is not yet clearly defined. It is astonishing and surprising that this should be so. I am writing about this to the great Rav and Chassid*, Rav B. E. G. (note 3), but, for the sake of good order, I mention it to you as well.

D) I enclose a note on the continuation of the imprisonment (note 5: Of the Previous Rebbe, in Soviet Russia). It seems that, due to an error, this was not enclosed with my previous letter.

E) As I have requested on several occasions, it would be good to have articles appear, in the periodicals of Morocco, some of which must be read by Jews, about your activities, as well as about the ideas of Chassidus*, its customs, its practices, and its history, according to the readership and the content of the periodical.

F) Between the lines of your letter, one notes that you yourself see the success of your accomplishments. I was satisfied by this. May Hashem grant that you observe as soon as possible, in a concrete and tangible manner, the success of everything that has not yet come to fruition and that you be fully aware of it. With my blessing for success in your sacred mission and in what concerns you personally,

M. Schneerson,
