To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to

communal needs, Rav Menachem Zeev HaLevi (note 1: Rav M. Z. Gringlass, of Montreal. See, regarding him, letter no. 7774),

I greet you and bless you,

I received, in their time, your letters of 17 and 22 Menachem Av* (note 2: This is the continuation of letter no. 2227). No doubt you will transmit to me good news of what concerns you personally. Regarding the visit, here, of that man, I have already written that one must not limit oneself to planting, which one can do with a single word. It is further necessary that concrete action result from it, each one according to his domain. The beginning of the effort, in this direction, consists in asking him what he heard (note 3: When he was at the Rebbe's). In this way, the opportunity will be given him to relate what he has on his heart. And, the one who questions him will be able to supplement, to draw closer to concrete action.

You tell me that Rav A. Stern, a Shochet*, will soon publish a collection of stories of the righteous. It would have been judicious to ask him to note, in the margins or at the end of the book, from whom he received each story, whether that person is trustworthy and to what extent. As for the other Rav, he must influence his son, who has gone to the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt. One must also speak to him about the Mikveh* of his city. On these two points, he was approached coldly and his justification therefore adopted the terms of the Beraisa* (note 4: At the end of tractate Sotah*): "We can only rely on our Father Who is in Heaven." Furthermore, one knows the saying (note 5: See, on this subject, letter no. 3925) of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, emphasizing that this Beraisa* is cited following the description of the birth pangs of Moshiach*, for example the rise in prices (note 6: Observing that one can only rely on Hashem is therefore equivalent to saying that the redemption is near).

I thank you for what you write to me about the students of the Yeshivah*. You will not fail to inform me of what happens to them, in particular during the days of Elul* and Tishrei*. Furthermore, your Yeshivah* has surely become aware of the proposal I formulated here, that of an addition, by the students and, all the more so, by the dean and the directors, to the study of Chassidic* discourses describing the service of Hashem specific to this period. It would be good for it to be adopted also in Montreal, as well as in other places. It is, of course, unnecessary for you to justify everything you write to me (note 7: Rav Gringlass apologized for taking the Rebbe's time by writing long letters) on this matter, for it is, on the contrary, very judicious to do so and it should even be more frequent and more detailed. May Hashem grant you the merit of giving me good news of what concerns you personally,

אודות ביקורו של מר... שי' כאן, הנה ע"פ [מה] שכתבתי מכבר, שאינו ענין בזריעה לבדה, שזורעים מיט א ווארט, אלא שאח"כ צריך להשתדל שיבוא לפועל, בכל אחד לפי ענינו.

ותחלת ההשתדלות בזה - ששואלים אותו מה ששמע וכו' ובמילא יש להנ"ל, הזדמנות לספר את אשר בלבבו, והשואל יכול למלאות ולקרב בפועל כו'.

מ"ש שהר"א שי' שטערן שו"ב מו"ל בקרוב ספר ספורי מעשיות צדיקים, הי' צריך לעוררו שירשום בשוה"ג או בסוף הספר ממי שמע הסיפור, ואם הוא בר סמכא, ועד כמה כו'.

בנוגע להרב...שי', הנה צריך הי' לעוררו - הן בדבר השפעתו על בנו שנסע לאה"ק ת"ו, וכן בענין המקוה במחנו, אשר בשני הענינים דברו בקרירות לבד שהסברתו היתה, כמאמר הברייתא - אנו אין לנו להשען אלא על אבינו שבשמים, הרי ידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שהברייתא מביאה מאמר זה בהמשך לכל הענינים של חבלי משיח, מה שהיוקר יאמיר וכו'.

ת"ח על מ"ש אודות תלמידי הישיבה, ובטח ידוע מהנעשה עמדם ובפרט בימי אלול ותשרי, ובטח נשמע גם בישיבתם אשר היתה כאן הצעתי שיוסיפו תלמידי הישיבה (7והר"י, והנהלה לא כש"כ) בלימוד עבודה'דיקע מאמרים ביחוד בימים אלו, ומה טוב אשר גם במאנטרעאל יעשו כזאת ומה טוב אשר גם בשאר המקומות.

... בודאי מותר לו להצטדק על מ"ש בענינים הנ"ל, כי נכון הדבר במאד, והלואי שלעתים תכופות יותר בפרטיות יותר.

השי"ת יזכהו לבשר טובות מעניניו הפרטיים.
