To the leaders of the youth of the Chabad* association,

in the holy city of Yerushalayim*, may it be

restored and rebuilt, may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter of 24 Elul*, which followed a period of silence and a long interruption. At this time, the period is not propitious for writing letters. I therefore enclose mine, which is addressed to all and which therefore concerns you personally. No doubt you will disseminate it in the fitting manner, in the broadest circles. You wrote to me that you are in contact with the youth of the Chabad* association of Tel Aviv. I am therefore surprised that you did not contribute to the Bitaon* (note 2: The Bitaon Chabad*, organ of the Chabad* youth association), which appeared for 18 Elul* (note 3: Date of the birth of the Baal Shem Tov* and of the Admur HaZaken*). This deficiency is evident and no doubt you will correct all of this at the next opportunity.

You ask me whether you should send to all the deans and directors of the Yeshivos* the letter that appears at the beginning of the Kuntres HaAvodah* (note 4: Of the Rebbe Rashab*) and of the Kuntres Etz HaChaim* (note 4). In my view, it is still too early for this. Certainly, you may disseminate it among your friends and acquaintances, in whatever Yeshivah* they pursue their studies. On the other hand, I do not know whether, by doing so forcefully and by campaigning for it, you will know success. Now, concretely, the goal of every action is indeed its concrete result. If it is possible to do so discreetly, that is good, for our Sages teach: "You shall follow His ways." Now, it is said: "Not in the tumult, nor in the breath, nor in the fire, but in a still, small voice" (note 5: Acting discreetly is therefore indeed adopting the ways of Hashem).

I address to you my blessing that each of you and all of you together be definitively sealed for a good year. May the desire of Hashem be fulfilled through your intermediary and may you disseminate the wellsprings (note 6: Of Chassidus*) to the outside, may you transform the outside into inside and draw from the wellsprings the waters that cover the sea, as it is said: "For, the earth will be filled with the knowledge of Hashem (note 7: "As the water covers the sea bed," upon the coming of Moshiach*)."

N.B.: I am surprised not to find in your letter a work program for the month of Tishrei*. But, no doubt nothing will be lacking in the action. You simply did not write it to me.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבם מכ"ד אלול אחרי השתיקה והפסק הארוך, והנה אין הזמן גרמא לכתיבת מכתבים עתה ומוסג"פ מכתבי כללי אשר ישמש ג"כ בתור מכתב פרטי אליהם, ובטח יפרסמוהו באופן המתאים בחוגים היותר רחבים.

לפלא אשר לאחר שכתבו לי שעומדים הם בקישור עם צעירי אגו"ח דתל אביב ובכ"ז לא השתתפו בבטאון שי"ל לח"י אלול באופן ניכר ובטח יתקנו את זה בהזדמנות המתאימה.

בשאלתם אם לשלוח לכל הר"י ומנהלי הישיבת מכתב המובא בתחלת קונטרס העבודה ועץ חיים, הנה לדעתי עדיין מוקדם הזמן לזה, אף שיש לפרסם את הנ"ל בין חבריהם ומכיריהם מבלי הפליה באיזה ישיבה הוא לומד, אבל לעלות בחומה וברעש איני יודע אם יצליח בזה בנוגע לפועל הרי זוהי תכלית כל העבודה שתבוא למעשה בפועל ואם אפשר בקול דממה דקה ה"ז הוא טוב וכמרז"ל והלכת בדרכיו מה הוא כו' והלא לא ברעש ולא ברוח ולא באש כו' כ"א בקול דממה דקה.

בברכת חתימה וגמר חתימה טובה לכל אחד ואחד מהם בפרט ולכולם ביחד אשר חפץ ה' בידם יצליח להפיץ המעיינות חוצה ולעשות מהחוץ פנים ומהמעינות המים אשר לים מכסים כי מלאה הארץ דעה אתה ה'.

נ"ב. לפלא שאין מזכירים במכתבם אודות תכנית עבודה לחדש תשרי ובטח לא יהי' חסרון בפועל רק שלא כתבו אודות זה.
