To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes

himself to communal needs, Rav N. N. (note 1: Rav Nissan Nemanov. See, regarding him, letter no. 7809),

I greet you and bless you,

A) I have duly received your letter of 3 Teves* and the one that preceded it. I thank you very much for having informed me that the Chanukah* money was properly distributed to the students (note 2: Of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch* of Brunoy, in the Parisian region). You also specify the explanations you gave them on this occasion. May Hashem grant that this have a concrete effect on their daily existence.

B) I was happy to learn that one can hope for the arrival of a group of students coming from Germany to pursue studies at the Yeshivah* of Paris. I am surprised that you say nothing about this in your letter. No doubt you have acted, in this matter, with the fitting diligence and may Hashem grant you success. Indeed, one knows the saying of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, according to which "a good deed is preferable to a thousand complaints." It would be good to make the name of the Yeshivah* known through the emissaries of the Sages (note 3: Charged with collecting funds for the Yeshivah*), by all possible means. One must make it known that students are welcomed there. And, in fact, some come from the Yeshivos* of England or of Antwerp. As my father-in-law, the Rebbe, writes in one of his letters (note 4: See his Igros Kodesh*, volume 13, letter no. 4703), "when one places a streetlamp in the street, people gather around it, when night falls." How much more is this the case when what is placed in the street is the luminaire of the Torah*, that is to say Chassidus*. It is certain that people gather around it. Nevertheless, it is necessary to inform those who, for the time being, find themselves in another street. And, one must do so in terms they will understand. Awaiting your good news,

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מג' טבת והקודם לו, ות"ח ת"ח על ידיעתו מחלוקת מעות חנוכה לתלמידים וההסברה שנתן להם, ויה"ר אשר יפעלו הדברים בהנוגע לחיי היום יומים בפועל.

ב) שמחתי לקבל ידיעה שיש תקוה שקבוצת תלמידים מאשכנז יבואו ללמוד להישיבה בפאריז, ולפלא שאינו מזכיר דבר עד"ז במכתבו, ובודאי עושה בזה במרץ המתאים והשי"ת יצליחם, וידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע טובה פעולה אחת מאלף אנחות, וכדאי הי' לפרסם שם הישיבה ע"י השדרי"ם ובכל האופנים שאפשר ושמקבלים תלמידים לישיבתם וכו' כי הרי סו"ס יש כמה תלמידים מהישיבות באנגליא ובאנטעווערפען וכו' וכמו שכתב כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר באחד ממכתביו שכשמעמידים פנס ברחוב חשכת הלילה מתקבצים סביבותיו, הרי עאכו"כ כשמעמידים מאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות ברחוב, בודאי יתקבצו סביבו, אלא שאלה שלע"ע נמצאים ברחוב אחר צריכים להודיעם עד"ז באותיות כאלו שיגיע אליהם...
