To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to

communal needs, Rav Menachem Zeev HaLevi (note 1: Rav M. Z. Gringlass, of Montreal. See, regarding him, letter no. 7774),

I greet you and bless you,

A) I have duly received your letter of 16 Shevat* and no doubt you have, for your part, received my previous correspondence (note 2: This presumably refers to letter no. 2428). You allude to this person. Now, I have already written to him and what purpose would it serve to do so once more? Moreover, I specified to him orally that he must consult specialist doctors. Indeed, "the Torah* has granted the doctor the possibility of healing" and Hashem will therefore allow success.

B) Regarding the students of the house of study who lack discipline and do not respect the study times, it is in no way for me to substitute myself for the supervisor or for each member of the administration, as it is said: "Let your foot be lifted from the house of your friend." As is the case in every school, those in charge must oversee respect for the schedule and for conduct. If these men faithfully carry out their mission, I do not see why they would not succeed in assuming it, as is the case in the other Yeshivos*, all the more so since I have already spoken of this problem to several students and they have no doubt transmitted this message to their friends.

C) The same applies also to the student you cite. Why must he comment and interpret a sigh (note 3: That the Rebbe would have uttered, thereby showing that he is not satisfied with the studies of this young man), and deduce from it that he does not know what to do? He clearly posed his question and I answered him just as clearly that he must not interrupt (note 4: His studies at the Yeshivah*). There is therefore no reason to be in doubt.

D) I enclose a copy of my letter that was officially addressed to the Chassid*, Rav L. Kremer (note 5: Rav Leib Kremer, director of the Chabad* institutions of Montreal). As was transmitted to me by telephone, its content will surely be disseminated during the coming Shabbos* that blesses the month. Despite this, I send you a copy and I hope that you will receive it before this Shabbos* that blesses the month. No doubt you will make good use of it, to the fullest extent possible. מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מט"ז שבט, ובטח מכתבי הקודם כבר הגיעו, ובמה שכותב אודות... הנה כבר כתבתי לו ומה תועלת במה שאכפול עוה"פ, ובפרט שאמרתי לו גם בע"פ, והוא שיעשו כהוראת רופאים מומחים, והתורה נתנה רשות לרופא לרפאות.

והשי"ת יצליחם.

ב) בהנוגע להתלמידים דבית המדרש שניכר בהם העדר המשמעת ואי שמירת הזמן וכו'. הנה אין זה הנהגה כלל וכלל שאני אהי' ממלא מקום המשגיח ולמלאות מקום כאו"א מההנהלה וכו', וכמ"ש הוקר רגלך מבית רעך. ושמירת הזמן וההשגחה הרי צ"ל על זה - כמו בכל מוסד חינוך - אנשים ממונים. ואם יעשו מלאכתם באמונה איני מבין מפני מה לא יצליחו הם במה שבישיבות אחרות מצליחים, ובפרט שכבר דברתי עם אחדים מהת' בהנוגע להנ"ל ובודאי מסרו גם לחבריהם.

ג) ובהדומה להנ"ל - גם בהנוגע להת'... כי מה לו ללמוד פשטים וביאורים בה'קרעכץ וכו' ובמילא אינו יודע מה לעשות - אשר כיון ששאל בפירוש ועניתי לו ג"כ בפירוש שלא יפסיק, הרי אין מקום לספק.

ד) מוסג"פ העתק מכתבי שנשלח באופן רשמי להרה"ח כו' מוהר"ל שי' קרעמער.

וכפי שנמסר לו ע"י התלפון בטח יפרסמו בש"ק מברכים הבע"ל, בכ"ז שלוח גם לו העתקה בזה ותקותי שגם היא תתקבל קודם הש"ק מברכים. ובודאי ינצל אותו ככל האפשרי. ואחכה לבשו"ט.
