I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter of 22 Shevat*, as well as the two preceding ones (note 1: This letter is addressed to Rav Yechiel Michel Yehuda Leib Zalmanov. See, regarding him, letter no. 7950). I read therein, with pleasure, that you have already obtained your visa. According to your letter, the military chaplain is concerned, for he cannot find a successor who can take over his functions. Now, this surely has an effect on the fear of Hashem of the soldiers. One must therefore find a solution and ensure that there is no deficiency in this matter. If, moreover, an addition is possible, as for everything that belongs to the domain of holiness, that will be all the better.

You communicate to me the content of your discussions with your disciples and what resulted from them for the concrete practice of the Mitzvos*, which is the purpose of man. I was satisfied by this. For them to act with enthusiasm and in a lasting manner, it is also necessary that they have knowledge of the luminaire of the Torah*, that is to say the teaching of Chassidus*, its customs, and its directives. May Hashem therefore grant you success in giving me good news of all of this, as well as of the state of health of your wife and, more generally, of everything that concerns you personally.

N.B.: I enclose a copy of the letter I wrote, these days, to a group of young people here. These young people possess only a very limited knowledge of the Torah* and of the Mitzvos*. I hope that this letter will be useful to you in your discussions with your group. It is quite evident that one must not travel on Shabbos* (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 7554) on a ship whose sailors or owners have entered the covenant (note 3: Are Jewish).

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מכ"ב שבט וכן ב' הקודמים. ונהניתי לקרוא בו שכבר קבל הוויזה. וכיון שכפי מכתבו הנה הרב הצבאי מודאג מחוסר ממלא מקומו במקום שירותו, אשר בודאי זהו נוגע לעניני יראת שמים דאנשי הצבא, הנה צריך לסדר את הענין ולהבטיח שלא יהי' מגרעות בהנ"ל וככל דבר שבקדושה - אם אפשר להיות תוספת הרי מה טוב.

נהניתי ממ"ש תוכן שיחותיו עם המושפעים שלו שהוא ה"בכן" בהנוגע לקיום מצות מעשיות אשר זהו כל האדם, וכדי שיהי' בחיות וענין של קיימא מוכרח ג"כ שידעו אודות המאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות מנהגי' והדרכותי'.

והשי"ת יצליח לבשר טוב בכל הנ"ל, וכן מבריאות זוגתו תחי' ובכל מעניניו הפרטים.
