To the members of the committee of the youth of the Chabad* association,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

A) I read the report of your meeting with pleasure and joy, for you have finally established a concrete work program. In this way, "satisfaction is implanted in a part of my heart." However, "tears are found on the other side," for many names are missing from the list of participants. Nevertheless, I hope that, when the time comes, these will join you. Indeed, "the Holy One blessed be He did not find a receptacle containing the blessing like peace." Of course, they will join you without your renouncing the essential principles.

For the time being, here is the object of the present letter. I would like to remind you of the importance of the pure and luminous day, the 18th of Elul*, which approaches. No doubt you will experience it with the eagerness and vitality that characterize the young, by disseminating the ideas of the Baal Shem Tov* and of the Admur HaZaken*, who were born, physically and spiritually, on this date. You will carry out this dissemination in the broadest circles, even if they are, for the time being, still distant from our milieux.

And one knows the saying of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, which specifies the difference between the other communities and Chabad*. The great ones of the former remained at home, in their place. Whoever thirsted for Torah* therefore came to them if he desired to benefit from their teaching. By contrast, the Baal Shem Tov* and his successors did not adopt the same behavior. They introduced a new order. The Baal Shem Tov* went around the villages, without waiting for people to come to him, declaring: "We face the Word of Hashem." He himself went from one place to another, from one city to another, from one village to another, in order to disseminate the Words of the living Elokim, as the discourse of the meal of the day of Acharon Shel Pesach* specifies, reported in the Sefer HaSichos* summer 5700.

B) A work program must be established in order to take advantage of the month of Tishrei*, which approaches. For this, as I said, one will go to different places in the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, either during the Days of Awe*, or during the time of our joy. But above all, this must be well organized, so that one gladden the greatest number of people, men, women, and children.

C) In this matter, particular attention must be given to our brothers originating from Yemen and Persia. For the time being, they have no knowledge of the Chassidic* movement, of its teaching, and of its customs. Now, they are particularly suited to receive it, through their fear of Hashem, through their attachment to the Kabbalah*, and through their faith in the righteous. They will therefore accept everything that is shown to them of the Chassidus* that was bequeathed to us by our holy masters, whose merit will protect us. I would like to know the details of the program proposed to you in this domain. In this matter, it would be particularly judicious for you to seek counsel from the leaders of the association of the Chassidim* of Chabad*. Although a large part of this activity is incumbent upon the young, since it is necessary to travel, which requires much eagerness and vitality, our Sages nonetheless say that "the destruction of the elders is a construction." A fortiori is this the case for their construction.

For the time being, I do not have the necessary means to cover the expenses occasioned by these activities. Nevertheless, I wish to participate, from here, in these accomplishments of the highest importance. Not being able to send you money, for various reasons, I send you prepaid shipping vouchers. Our Sages say that: "what has market value is like money." In another envelope, you have been sent an extract of the discourse of the Shabbos* that blessed the month of Elul*, as well as a booklet on the communal activity of Chabad*, which has just appeared. All of this was sent to you by air and you will kindly acknowledge receipt. I address to you my blessing that all your members be inscribed and sealed for a good year, as well as the members of their family and all their loved ones. All will have a good and sweet year. בנועם ובשמחה קראתי הפרטי-כל של אסיפתם, אשר כבר עורכים תכנית ועבודה ממשית. ואף שחדוה תקיעה בלבאי מסטרא דא, הנה בכי' תקיעא בלבאי מסטרא דא, אשר כמה וכמה חסרים ברשימת המשתתפים, אבל תקותי אשר במשך הזמן גם אלו יצטרפו אליהם, ולא מצא הקב"ה כלי מחזיק ברכה אלא השלום. כמובן שיצטרפו אליהם מבלי שיוותרו הם על ענינים עקריים.

ועל של עתה באתי לעוררם על היום הצח והבהיר הוא יום ח"י אלול הבע"ל, אשר בטח ינצלו אותו במרץ וחיות שהם מסגולות הצעירים, להפיץ את רעיון הבעל שם טוב ואדמו"ר הזקן, אשר יום הולדתם, ברוחניות ובגשמיות, הוא יום ח"י זה. ולהפיץ רעיון זה בחוגים היותר רחבים ואף שהם לעת עתה עדיין רחוקים מסביבותינו שלנו.

וידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בהחילוק שבין העולמ'שע וחב"ד, אשר בגדולים של עולמ'שע הי' שהיו יושבים בביתם ובמקומם, וכל התאב לתורה הי' בא אליהם ליהנות בזיו תורתם, משא"כ הבעש"ט ואילך, שהם הנהיגו את הסדר שהי' הבעש"ט מסבב בעיירות ואינו מחכה עד שיבואו אליו ויאמרו נצבים אנו לדבר הוי' אלא הוא בכבודו ובעצמו הי' מכתת ברגליו ממקום למקום מעיר לעיר ומכפר לכפר וה'י מפיץ את תורת דברי אלקים חיים (ספר השיחות קיץ ת"ש, אחרון של פסח בסעודת היום).

ב) לסדר תכנית עבודה איך לנצל את חודש תשרי הבע"ל, וכנ"ל ע"י הסיבוב במקומות שונים, באה"ק ת"ו או במשך הימים נוראים, או בימים דזמן שמחתינו, והעיקר שיהי' באופן מסודר, ובאופן שי[...] שמחים היותר גדולים ומספר אנשים ונשים וטף היותר גדול.

ג) תשומת לב מיוחדת בכל הנ"ל דורשים אחינו בני תימן, פרס וכו' אשר מצד אחד אין להם לע"ע שום ידיעה מתנועת החסידות תורתה ודרכי', ומצד השני מוכשרים הם ביותר, מצד היראת שמים שבהם והתקשרותם בתורת הקבלה ואמונת צדיקים, לקבל כל דבר שיר[א]ו אותם בתורת דא"ח [שה]נח[י]לו לנו כ"ק נשיאינו הקדושים זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

אתענין לדעת את הפרטים של התכנית אשר הציגו להם בזה, ומהנכון ביותר שיתייעצו בכהנ"ל עם מנהלי אגודת חסידי חב"ד, אשר אף כי על שכם הצעירים מוטל חלק גדול של עבודה הנ"ל הקשורה בטילטול הדרך הדרוש מרץ וחיות ביותר, אבל לאידך גיסא, כיון שאמרו רז"ל סתירת זקינים בנין, על אחת כו"כ שבנין זקינים הוא בנין.

לע"ע אין תחת ידי אמצעים מספיקים לכלכל את ההוצאות הקשורות בעבודה הנ"ל, אבל בהיות רצוני חזק להשתתף גם מכאן בהוצאות בעינן נעלה כזה, ומבלי האפשריות מפני כמה טעמים לשלוח כסף מפה, הנני מסגיר פה סרטיפיקט לחבילות, וארז"ל שוה כסף ככסף.

במעטפה בפ"ע נשלח להם קטע משיחת שבת מברכים חדש אלול, וכן חוברת ע"ד עסקנות ציבורית חב"ד שיצא לאור זה עתה, כל זה בדואר אויר, ומטובם לאשר קבלת הנ"ל.
