To the young man Shalom Dovber (note 1: Rav Sh. D. Gurkov, of Manchester. See, regarding him, letter no. 7898),

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 15 Elul* (note 2: In which the addressee asks the Rebbe about his studies at the Yeshivah*). You yourself or your father will write to the administration of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Montreal. You will describe your level of knowledge and ask whether there exists a class that suits you. If this is indeed the case, you will endeavor to obtain a visa for the United States and another for Canada. You will therefore be able to spend the month of Tishrei* here, then you will go to pursue your studies at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Montreal. In any event, may Hashem open your heart and your mind, so that you serve Him with ardor and constancy, by studying the revealed part of the Torah* and Chassidus*, by praying with fervor, and by fulfilling the Mitzvos* in the best manner. With my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year,
