To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to

communal needs, Rav Menachem Zeev HaLevi (note 1: Rav M. Z. Gringlass, of Montreal. See, regarding him, letter no. 7774),

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter from the eve of Rosh Chodesh*, as well as the preceding one, concerning the students (note 2: Of the Yeshivah* Lubavitch* of Montreal). I also obtained the information that was communicated by telephone. I am surprised by your emotionality, which manifests itself in two extremes. As the Midrash* says: "when they ascend, they go up to the sky" (note 3: Going thus to the extreme). And the Rambam* has already explained at length, in his Laws of Character Traits, that the desirable option is the middle path, except in exceptional situations, for example for one who is ill, physically or morally, which Heaven forbid.

It is surely unnecessary to remind you that you must communicate to me, with all possible details, the accounts of the students who spent the holidays here and the activities that resulted from this visit. I thank you in advance for giving me all the necessary details. With my blessing for giving good news, including of what concerns you personally,

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מער"ח וכן מכתבו הקודם אודות התלמידים וגם הידיעה ע"י טעלעפאן.

ונפלאתי על מדת ההתפעלות המביאה לשתי הקצוות, וע"ד המובא במדרש לענין כשהן עולין - עד לרקיע. וכבר מבואר בהלכות דיעות להרמב"ם בארוכה, אשר דרך המיצוע הוא דרך הרצוי (לבד במקרים יוצאים מן הכלל, כמו חולה ר"ל בגשמיות או ברוחניות).

בודאי למותר לעוררו להודיעני בפרטיות המתאימה מסיפור התלמידים שי' שהיו כאן במשך הימים טובים והפעולות מביקור זה. ות"ח מראש על פרטיות המתאימה.
