To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself

to communal needs, Rav Avraham (note 1: Rav A. Herskovits, of Rishon LeTzion. See, regarding him, letter no. 5113),

I greet you and bless you,

After a long silence, I received, with pleasure, your letter from the conclusion of Shabbos* Parshas* Toldos*, in which you tell me that you have settled in Rishon LeTzion*, where you assume a sacred mission, education based on sacred values, bringing the hearts of the children of Israel closer to our Father Who is in Heaven. Without a doubt, Hashem will act "measure for measure" (note 2: In the manner in which one acts toward Him), but in a largely increased proportion, and He will grant you much Jewish satisfaction from all your children.

Likewise, I was satisfied to learn that you give an evening course on the Prophets and Halachah* in the army. No doubt you endeavor that it bear upon laws of daily usage. Indeed, the purpose of man is the fear of Hashem and the observance of His Mitzvos*. You also specify that you have a Chassidus* course on Friday evening. It goes without saying that this is absolutely insufficient. You must have such a study also several times during the week, for nothing resists the will. With my blessing,

שלום וברכה!

לאחרי שתיקתו הארוכה נעם לי לקבל מכתבו ממוצש"ק תולדות. בו כותב אשר עבר לגור בראשון לציון ומתעסק שם במלאכת הקדש חינוך על טהרת הקדש המקרב את לבם של בני ישראל לאבינו שבשמים. ובודאי מדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה אבל כ"פ ככה לקבל רוב נחת יהודי מכל יו"ח שיחיו.

כן נהניתי ממ"ש שנותן שיעור בערב בצבא בנביאים ודינים ובודאי משתדל שהדינים יהיו הלכות הצריכות בחיי היום יומים כי ה"ז כל האדם את האלקים ירא ואת מצותיו שמור.

מ"ש שיש לו שיעור בלימוד החסידות בליל ש"ק. בודאי למותר לעורו שאין זה מספיק כלל וכלל וצריך להיות לימוד זה עכ"פ איזה פעמים גם במשך השבוע ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון...
